The Movie Ayrton Senna

The film ‘Senna’ is set for a June release in the United Kingdom, with other European countries also poised to see the much-awaited film this year. Premiered in his native Brazil in the same week as last year’s São Paulo Grand Prix, which was staged in early November, only a select few Senna family members and Formula 1 paddock insiders have so far been able to watch the film.

“Universal, who are distributing it, have set a release date for 3 June for the United Kingdom - that’s a big release date,” Manish Pandey, Writer and Executive Producer for ‘Senna’, explained on Peter Windsor’s The Flying Lap webcast on Wednesday night.

“There’s a release date around then, perhaps a bit earlier, for France and there’s a release in Italy for February. Then we’re going to Germany at some point in July and Australia, but that date hasn’t been set.”

Thank you for the heads up.

I saw the Portuguese language version of this film in december, and it was majestic. It will be interesting to see if the English version retains the same feel or wether it will have its own unique flavour as so often happens in translations.

The score(soundtrack) particularly at the end, is very sad. A must not only for Senna fans, but for all Formula 1 fans to see how a man can actually transcend the sport.

And the Monaco footage alone is worth watching the whole film....5 times over!

A few tears at the end....

I am quite fortunate, in that I recently became friends with the projectionist at my local art-house theatre : he too is an F1 fan, so I am fairly certain that we can twist some arms and get this screened nearby :)

Who plays Senna?

I've been always saying that the only suitable actor would be Grégoire Colin

A bit of makeup and hairstyle, and you'd have Senna's almost identical lookalike.

Besides, he is really great actor, with that Senna's typical inner tranquility.

EDIT: Just checked the details, it's a documentary, not a movie.

Senna plays Senna.

Its a documentary told in a very touching way, family footage, FIA footage(unseen before)and has tributes from Prost, Lauda and even the moment Schumacher broke down breaking Sennas record of poles.
Unfortunately, it didnt go into much depth with the spats that Senna had with Ballestre or the FIA, that would have made it a perfect 10 if they had.
It gets 9.5.

And the ballestre/FIA spats

It's being shown at the Sundance Film Festival. I just found that out yesterday, I should've checked earlier...
I'm going to try to get a "waitlist" ticket to see it tomorrow.

I though that was wins Schumacher equalled. Besides, I read that Schumacher has never spoken about it so who knows.

Wow...I just got back from seeing it.
It's really pretty well done. Seeing that lap of Imola...I thought my heart was going to pound straight through my chest.

We've all seen it, we know what's going to happen next, but that doesn't change a thing. If anyone here ever has the chance to see it, do so.

Definately gonna persuade my dad to take me now. Looks almost artistic, by almost asking the watcher a question. Can't wait to see it.

It was a very good movie, I recommend it to anyone that likes F1, and then some.

Which is surprising because I'm usually not impressed by most movies. [...]

I saw it a few hours ago. Very good, although I am too young to remember him racing it felt to me that it was biased towards Ayrton throughout the movie.

Prost and the FIA came out in a bad light, what do people think about this?

They were portrayed as bitter rivals, but in the movie(and IRL)they develop a certain respect for each other, which becomes evident later on.
