sorry if this is a dumb question but it is my first post
would it be allowed to use soft tyres on the predominant side ,say yellow on the left side while white on the right side on a mostly right corner circuit ?????

The front and rear tyres have different dimensions, but they have all to be made from one and the same single rubber compound. That is probably what you meant. One can neither use two compounds on one tyre or different compounds rear and front or different compounds left and right.

It would be wiser to do the reverse though - the outside tyre should be stronger as it carries the brunt of the lateral load.

To be even more pedantic you should put the harder compound on opposite corners. In a predominantly left handed circuit you would have hard tires on the right front and left rear. On an oval track this has obvious advantages. I don't think it would work on a road circuit simply due to the changes in loading messing with handling.
