I use Zircotec's Zirco-flex ceramic matting on my car and it is very good. Stopped my left foot front being burnt off by the turbo and exhaust in the transmission tunnel (RHD remember).

Another product I've used that has worked very well in high heat situations (aside from ceramic coatings) is the various non-fibreglass exhaust wraps. Some people hate these and the fibreglass ones are garbage, but there is one from DEI that I have used as a first layer before applying the Zircotec matting and it has been spot on.

My turbo manifold is ceramic coated, wrapped and then has a Zircotec blanket over the top to keep maximum heat in the exhaust to the turbine.

Unlike fibreglass there's no annoying fibres, doesn't absorb oil etc so isn't a fire hazard and has a much higher heat tolerance. We even applied heat for a small LPG burner to see what would happen and no scorching, burning, smoking etc. Its says 1,800F or 975C direct heat tolerance and I'd be inclined to say it was about right.

The other one is ACL Race Series Heat Shield which is an sandwich of ceramic filler between two 0.15mm aluminum sheets. Its pliable and works but its not good against very hot surfaces. For radiant heat no problem, but not for direct contact.

Good question. I've seen this metal clad insulation on the exhaust of several racing engines but I don't know who manufactures this specific kind of insulation. I do however know that several aerospace suppliers (Hitco for instance) and exhaust manufacturers offer similar types of metal clad insulations. It consists of a metal foil, typically stainless or Inconel, over a layer of insulation.

The insulation on the intake manifold is usually available as a self sticking film.

the product is called Integraldämmung .As I understand the service is not really available to one off customers...

The ATL product mentioned above -called "Deltamax" is not suitable to be applied to a exhaust pipe.The adhesive is silikone based .the product worrks the other way round - it really is a very good and efficient product and a long way better than gold foil products as it does not only work for radiated heat.

you can also go for some MLS (Multilayerinsulation) for example -this is cheap and very effective potentially.(Making use of air
layers between isolationlayers)
