Now that semi auto gearboxes have eliminated the need for a clutch pedal
What can the drivers left foot be used for?

I'm thinking about something regarding traction: maybe something similar to a clutch, varying shift reengagement to minimize shift time while preventing wheelspin.
Or maybe for something related to differential locking.

How about the brakes?

Left foot is used on the brakes.
By not moving a foot from one pedal to another saves a great deal of reaction time.

I think it helps to stay on track, not wreck, etc. Though if you want to have optimal simulation of Grosjean's Lotus it may be worth just skipping the brakes entirely and using the car as a bowling ball through T1.

They have been using the left foot to brake for many many years. Mclaren had a system with a third pedal to brake the inside wheel when accelerating out of a corner, but it was banned as a form of four wheel steering and that was 15? years ago

do you mean the wheelspin when a driver shifts up?

And the regulations are very neat in this area:
"Designs or systems which in addition to typical inherent hydraulic and mechanical properties are designed to, or have the effect of, adjusting or otherwise influencing the amount, or rate, of engagement being demanded by the FIA ECU, are not permitted."

Agreed here, this is just laughable. We better all just ignore this threads, that people even take this serious, you are trying to be too nice. There is no way that one person, who only created threads, and only replies in his own, can ask so many stupid questions. We have people who ask a lot of questions too, but at elast those questions make a bit of sense, and are actually well discussable.

That people even consider debating these threads, the reasoning is way beyond me.

Ok so about 50%nof his posts are rubbish but still at least most are technical questions rather then pointless dscussions on hamilto, alonso, mercedes bashing, pirelli bashing, fia bashing, tilke bashing etc etc etc

This is not conducive to a healthy forum. I have learned a great deal from the collective intelligence here and hope to learn more. I have asked some really silly questions and unknowingly posted some threads irrelevant to fia rules (micro turbines is one).
I am sorry Chris for not being as smart as you, but I did see the thread about the third pedal and doubt that GeForce has.
