Not a huge need for it. 7-post rig is a tool for a specific job, doesn't particularly need to be all-encompassing. For that matter there are no lateral or longitudinal loads applied at the tires, nor are the tires rotating or deflecting under those in-plane loads.

For the questions they're trying to answer using the rig, steer action may not be particularly important or influential.

Can anyone please name the 7 directions they apply forces to the car?

Well, the tires will deflect when you apply forces in z-direction (downforce).

I don't think you can speak of seven directions as from what i see in the video, the actuators can only move in one direction (vertical). The seven relates to the number of points where forces are applied, in the video the four tyres and three points at the chassis. Watch at 0:30 for the one between the front wheels and at 3:00 for the two at the rear.

There are even 8 post rigs, note the car has some formulas on the bodywork

Just testing how much the supports flex,,that's all.

1. Why would they show such secrets in a promo video?
2. Stress is applied to the part in different directions, it would be a wonder if it didnt flex in any direction.
3. It is the 2009 RB5 nose, I cant remember seeing or discussing any flex on that one, by anyone

Nothing special going on, just normal flex from the forces applied.

Example: 4 post rig, under the four tires.
And so on....

When ya show a video of them seeing just how much flex they can build into it, what the hell do you expect?
Get real...it ain't a "good" topic..it's a video.

It's is a good topic because we have not talked much about rig testing here before, even though there are some guys around which have good knowledge of that (DaveW for example).
Topics about flexing parts related to RedBull are more then enough around here and newer where interesting at all.

Pretty straight forward, fundamentally not many options. 4-post rig is wheel pans only, vertical actuation of each tire. If you want to add inertial and aero loads on the sprung mass... you have x/y/z, thus you need 3 actuators = 7 post. If you want to add warp, you need one more actuator for 8.

Wouldn't make much sense to have a "5 post rig" of pure downforce actuation (i.e. without drag moment), or no inertial loads. Similar with "6 post". Or, 2- or 3-post. 4-, 7-, and 8- are the only combinations I know of.

And even then, as I say.. post rigs are just one tool in the toolbox. Not the end-all-be-all of car setup.

did anyone notice how slowly the rear shock extends once it comes to rest?
