Hi,
So a friend has been asking for the unsprung weights of each corner but i have no idea where to find this information.
Anyone know other sites similar to Mulsanne´s corner that contain a lot of techincal information about cars, specifically the Mclaren MP4-12C GT3 race car?

ultimatecarpage.com might be the site you're looking for. But about the unsprung weight, I'd doubt that information is known outside of McLaren and teams running their car.

What is this data to be used for? Its normally in the region of 1-2% of the complete vehicle mass for a race car. This estimation might be ok depending on the application. For lateral load transfer calcs its probably accuate enough. If its for vertical calculations (damping, ride etc) you might want something a bit more exact.

I´m not entirely sure as i´m not knowledgeable myself but it´s for both lateral and vertical calculations.
I believe it´s to understand the telemetry better, i´ll ask him and maybe he can provide a much more complete answer.
Thanks Wesley, ll have a look there, yea i feared it would not be information that´s official.

1-2% sounds very low for unsprung weight. My wheels are 13" and about 9kg each with tyres. That's 36kg. Add in the uprights (~1kg each), the hubs, the calipers and the discs and I'd be amazed if it's less than 15kg per corner (60kg total). That's over 14% of the weight of the car. I suppose it works out a bit closer for a 1200-1300kg car though as that's about 25kg per corner, which seems plausible.

Ok yea, what I've given is typical for a 1200kg car. I imagine any GT3 car would be in that weight range.
Also the 1-2% is per corner with the rear slightly heavier due to the driveline.

What are the chances of me getting this information from a team directly or even Mclaren?
Near impossible? is it sort of "sacred" information or is it just irrelevant information worth putting in a flyer with specs?

Well, just try it and write an email. Explain your request and simply ask, it won't cost you anything but 5 minutes.
Here are two teams that race a McLaren in GT Masters:

Thanks for the info, just sent both an email,
asked for track width as well.

Hexis racing competed with a McLaren in the FIA GT Series last year.
I wonder if any of the teams mentioned will reply, but let's wait and hope the best.

Little chance of getting this from McLaren I'd say. Its a reasonably important parameter which affects road holding and the damping setup. Not critical but I doub't any OEM will give this information on principle.
Its also not worth putting in flyers as well so it won't be anywhere in the public domain (unless by mistake).
And finally its an annoying thing to measure, because you need to disassemble the suspension on the front and rear, weight it all and then reassemble and realign the wheels. It would be nearly a days work to do this.

I emailed three teams, the two above and United Autosport,
emailed the owner himself and he basically responded "Richard knows" so now i have emailed Richard

Let´s hope he got this information on a piece of paper as i´m sure he wont disassemble the car for me.

Got an email from MRS team today and got the track width and total corner weights, sent them an email for the unsprung ones and hopefully they have that information lying around.
Edit: no information on unsprung corner weights unfortunately but still great information.

Very nice of them.
Perhaps they can make a comment.
