I like driving to the indicated speed limit, in conjunction with weather and other mitigating conditions present at the time. To do otherwise is illegal, reckless and puts not only your life, but that of other innocent people in danger.

The answer is - it depends. If you have a passenger in the car, the first rule is to never cause the passenger to have concern for your sanity. A driver who makes his passenger(s) clutch at the various grab handles in the interior of the car - or puke out the window - is a very poor driver indeed.
Out on the open road, maintaining a pace roughly equivalent to other traffic usually works well. Driving a great deal slower or a great deal faster than the prevailing traffic is dangerous to all concerned.
I customarily drive between 10 and 15 mph over the posted speed limit. In the US, speed limits are set for political reasons that have nothing whatsoever to do with the safe operation of a motor vehicle. In general, you do not want to be the fastest car on the road unless you have an abundance of excess time on your hands to stop and talk to the members of the constabulary you encounter along the way.
When on track during an HPDE, I like to go as fast as my car will allow. I am usually way too busy to look at the speedometer at such moments!

After spending a few hours working in a trauma ward, I have since always tried to never exceed 70km/h and to avoid highways. I have also heard horror stories from first responders about passenger extractions from crushed cars by chainsaws. As one of my attendings used to say: "Every 10km/h over the limit is another on-site amputation".
Also, if it is raining, don't drive like an idiot or else please fill-out an organ donor card first.

130 - 150 km/h is pretty good for covering larger distances.
Otherwise the speed limit is usually fine for me.

I'm hazard a guess and say that doing 130km/h (the limit here) on the motorway with no oncoming traffic is by far
the safer and faster option that going 70km/h with oncoming traffic and intersections

Depends on the car but with my latest car a 320i with M-sport package it started to get interesting at 200km/h.
Did those speeds everyday to work. No traffic just a highway for myself. Cut travel time to work in half,
But regularly about 20km/h over the speed limit for 70km/h and up. Most road speeds here is way to conservative.
(and you have to account for the speedo not showing the actual speed)
30 and 50km/h i follow dead on as it´s usually schools or city environments.

US highway traffic tends to run about 70-75mph (110-120kph) regardless of the posted speed. I like to drive 5-10mph faster - the US DOT statistics say that's actually the safest relative speed. Any faster than that, and I find that it pisses off the people you want to pass anyway (people think you're going too fast and want to play junior policeman). So, 80mph or 130kph for me.
70kph? I hope you don't mean on the highway - you'd be the single most dangerous thing on the road around here.
This is from a study done in the 1960's, showing collision data as compared to relative speed. As you can see, about 7mph over the prevailing traffic speed is the sweet spot, slightly less at night...
Other studies have shown a higher relative speed being the safest (Google for Cirillo relative risk curve).
Being a mobile chicane is not smart.
The problem with these studies is that they omit single-car accidents which obviously skew the results somewhat. Still, I find that driving slightly faster than the prevailing speed better allows me to mentally keep track of where the traffic is, and I'm not splitting my attention with the rear-view mirror nearly as much.
I guess the other problem is that the strategy only works if it's a fairly well guarded secret. Everyone can't drive 5mph faster than the average.
In town is different, since the main danger isn't the cars traveling with you, but things like cross traffic, pedestrians and bikes, etc.; i.e., things you need to see and have time to react to. So slower is better, within reason.

I don't think so. It's more difficult to drive safely on a motorway due to higher closing speeds and less car control. If you drive safely in city traffic and anticipate other drivers doing stupid things (a must where I live), then it's very unlikely you will be involved in a serious accident. On highways and motorways, there are no such things as minor accidents (unless the road is gridlocked).
The most dangerous roads are country roads with high speed limits and broken central lines. Large animals like deer and cattle are also a major hazard in rural areas.

Statistically motorways are the safest roads to drive on.

Really depends. If it's a corner - as much as i could carry or the respective car can handle. Highway - usually in hurry, so 140-150 km/h is OK.

+1 if we're talking safety only, I'd take to an autobahn long before driving 55mph roads with two-way stop intersections or hell even stoplights.
It's a misleading statistic. It is safer for people that don't drive carefully on standard roads. If you drive carefully on normal roads and anticipate dangerous situations and act accordingly, you can avoid accidents. On a highway, it is more difficult to avoid an accident as you have less time to anticipate and avoid them, and if an accident occurs, it is more likely to be fatal.
But yes, statistically fewer accidents occur on highways as people drive like idiots everywhere and they will thus manage to have more accidents on curvy roads and roads without central barriers. It's more difficult for them to have an accident on a highway, but it is likewise more difficult for sensible drivers to avoid them on highways, whereas on a normal road you don't have to slow 120km/h of speed, but only 60 (most of the time).

I'm with Pup and as usual on the other side of the fence from most of you.
I drive as fast as I can with the traffic that is around. I like at least 10 over since the speed limits were set in the when some cars still had mechanical brakes.
