Porsche managed a sub-7 at the Nordschleife with their street legal 918 Spyder. Because I couldn´t find any news to this here I thought it´s worth to start an own topic.

Despite it appears to me the 918 Spyder is almost an old car, I mean it really is a while ago since they told it was launched, I just stumbled about this nice record.

I like to say that I´m not a big fan of all this hyprid stuff. It is all declared to be a green environmental friendly technology and from what I understand it really isn´t... and probably never will be.

Anyhow Porsche did it the proper way and took their Master-piece of engineering, droped it at a decent race track and set a pretty remarkable time.

as I understand it is not yet in the showrooms ,but as always you can place orders (or is it already sold out?)

And just to put things into perspective.

that´s one second faster then a full on 599XX with 700+ horses, loads of downforce and slicks.

I read that it did a 6.48 time on slicks.

I reckon I could roll a nice 8 and a half minutes in that, without getting tooooo scared at some sections!

I´m looking avidly for some backround to this record. As I´m usually not that interested in road cars, records allways get my attention especially when they set in the "green hell".

Rumors:
While McLaren set an unoffcial 7:04 (first attempt), the new GTR Nismo will also travel to the Ring with a record mission. Some significant weight savings and aero tuning in the Williams windtunnel are efforts to match the challange.

Hopefully Ferrari will join this race... On paper LaFerrari seems the most ultimate race machine, also exhalation the most CO2 unabashed

The weight disadvantage the Porsche tows with it´s different and bigger hybrid system seems to pay off by a nice working 4WD. I found a very agreeable video to this issue:

6:58.16, since it´s a racecar they only run it with slicks.
They have said that if they were to bring the Evoluzione then it would be 10-15s faster.

I was talking about the Porsche. Not the Ferrari.
