Do mgu-k and mgu-h motor/generator units run on DC or AC current?

I think we are safe to assume some kind of AC
but not AC as we know it in our domestic supply and devices

There was a interview that Ted Kravitz did at the Jerez test on Sky F1 during pre-season where I'm sure that the guy he interviewed (could have been Remy Taffin) said that they do a conversion from AC to DC when putting power into the battery and then convert it back again when consuming it.

We had lengthy discussions and the upshot was that the units are AC driven by an inverter which is fed by DC. All the measurements are taken on the DC side.

Was that what everybody thought would have been the best solution or were sources given that confirm that the motor/generator units are AC and driven through an inverter from DC?
