The word 'drifts' makes me want to go out and tell these boyracer dumbasses that Clarkson did not invent the car, they are not the first guy to go sideways, spoilers slow the car down, lowering the suspension will only give you a sore ass and that if I had my way you would all be facing a firing squad at dawn.

Oh dear, it appears they didn't learn from their first two mistakes.

First one was lame; second one I fell asleep watching; I'll probably watch the third one to make fun of it and to anger my blood. Fast and Furious = ultimate ricer movie. Makes me NOT want to get a Japanese car.

You don't know how big drifting is in SoCal... or the ricer scene. I'm glad I grew out of it. It used to be cool until everybody started doing it. Going to all the car shows, seeing the same car over and over again. The ugly paint jobs (Civic nation ring a bell?)... I f*cking hate it. Some of the uglier cars included fish tank headlamps and an E46 BMW, right when they came out in the United States, with a Nissan 240SX tailight converstion. I swear, the whole scene (parties, people, cars) just promotes bad taste.

The only good Japanese car stuff is when JGTC came here in 2004 and will probably come again this year.

"Drifting" is fashion, more about appearance and external confirmation of a person's status. So is wearing a flourescent mohawk haircut. It really has nothing to do with reality, it just appeals to the individual.
If you're truly fast, get a freaking stopwatch, and go to a track. If you're not, get a drifter and try to appear "cool".
There are those who want to appear as racers, and there are those who actually can go fast. Those in the latter category are real "racers". You will find them on the racetrack actually doing quick laps, racing other real racers.

He's a real racer too, and largely credited for starting the whole drifting craze. However, after "drifting" became big, what does he do? He went back to race in the JGTC.

I have maximum respect for the car control ability the really good D1GP contestants seem to have. Knocking all drifters as riceboys is like saying all NASCAR racers are stupid, while we know at least Jeff Gordon is good. Taking F&F and ricers as reference for drifters' ability is like taking Takuma Sato as the reference for F1.

F&F, the "import scene" and ricerisms in general are IMHO doing bad PR to real Japanese car enthusiasts, just as "Driven" does to formula racing. Besides, we all love drifting. Come on, who here doesn't like rallying or Gilles?

As far as drifting goes, this guy always got my vote. Heavy American iron that you can find at any white trash hotel, yet this guy is out there having fun with it. +5 Cool points to him.

Point well taken. I am a huge fan if the late great Gilles, and yes, he used to hang the back end out a lot, purely out of exuberance.
I also do recognize that this movement is popular with many. Just as when I was a young'un, I was excited and participated in social movements that my parents didn't approve of. It's their thing, it's not right or wrong, it's just their thing, what they like to do. And yes, some of those drivers are honestly skilled at what I do. It's just my personal bias that if you want to look fast, go fast, don't pretend. I always used to tell my friends, that if you can see a loud car, it's not fast, just loud. Fast and loud cars aren't seen, they are gone before you can get a glance...

I like it when real racers do it, but when my sisters boyfriend (who sold his car because the wipers weren't working) goes on about how he can do 100m drifts, I tell him to go rallying and see what happens.

Dario's ruthless throttle bleeping (So godamn annoying) and my pushing, got my car out of the mud this morning.

It had been stuck all night after me and my dad trying for an hour to get it out, but he jumps in, 10mins and its out.
