The HPD unit in the Indy car is greatly improved this year in power and FE. It finally bests the Chevy.

It'll be quite the adjustment for Alonso. The strategy in Indy high speed oval racing is different. I do expect him to be up towards the front with Montoya!
Just imagine: 2 laps to go, 2 cars clear of the pack. Montoya and Alonso battling it out for the milk bottle. A former and the current Mclaren F1 driver. Mythical...

perhaps Sakura modified the Honda indy engines they are talking about 40+ hp and less fuel consumption than last year
so they find it great opportunity for all if ALO do indy 500 advertising wise , same time give them room to fix the power unit with less stress iam sure the simulator numbers of the new spec PU play a part for the upbeat attitude
of the Mclaren-Honda individuals
If Sakura modified the hpd, they'd lose 40 hp not gain it.

the mp4-31 was fighting with Williams and FI without having TJI and with a limited compressor size(for the pride out of Honda's butt)
that gives me an idea about Honda having strong ICE
take the compressor out of the V and install TJI and suddenly life is beautiful LOL
Indy engines is basic engines compared to F1 PU

The engines in Indy are Honda and Chevrolet, they are very even, Chevy run a little more and Honda spend less, that in 2016, I have no information from 2017.

In the Indycar does not require the same physical form as in F1, here we can see how Montoya de la Indycar ate Montoya F1.

THIS IS WHAT THE F1 CAR SHOULD LOOK LIKE !!!!!!
You couldn't possibly be serious!! I respect your right to have your own aesthetic tastes. At the same time, I am glad you didn't head McLaren's livery design efforts.

They are both equally terrible. At least Mclaren are consistent.

I bet the Honda engine in Alonso's car will blow up within the first 50 laps of the race.

Actually since 2012, so this is the 6th season with the v6t.
And unlike in F1, the V6Ts are almost-universally loved by Indycar fans.

Why is that though?
(Not my personal opinion) It's noise. The brutally efficient engineering, design and innovation is all completely judged on its (lack of) ability to waste energy, indycar is just a V6 with a pair of turbos strapped to it.

If you could get an i4 to scream like the V10s, 90% of the whiners wouldn't care.
That is one thing, another possible reason is the American car culture. Unlike the British (the most outspoken of F1 fans), Americans generally has no qualms with turbocharging engines, matter fact, they love it.

This is clearly evident on the reviews for the Porsche 718 (Look them up in YouTube). British reviewers say that it is the worse than it's predecessor due to soulessness, while American reviewers would say they are the best Boxter/Cayman ever, they even like its "Subaru burble".

From sky f1
When the full extent of the McLaren-Honda's problems were revealed in Barcelona testing, and Alonso had made his frustrations very clear, an improvised meeting of McLaren and Honda management was convened to somehow reassure him - and invited to that meeting was Honda's former F1 team principal Ross Brawn, now of course F1's sporting and technical chief, working for Liberty.
Quite weird, what was Ross Brawn doing there ?

@Manoah2u,

And then of course, there are these:

I chose this one in particular. Well, because I think it looks great.

Absolutely love how 'neat' that car looks.

Oh please, can we stop with the indycar livery talks in this thread? I hardly see how it is relevant to the F1 team at all. There are separate threads for this.

To me this makes it quite clear that this is Fernando Alonsos last season in F1. He has come to terms with the facts that he will never get a drive in a car that allows him to challenge the number of championships of Vettel and Hamilton ...
Actually what he said is it will be very unlikely he will be able to beat Schumacher record to become the greatest in F1, so a triple crown will be more plausible. Vettel and Hamilton championships are irrelevant for Alonso
