Nascar really is hot

Ah, the memories. I thought I was alone in this. It is not a fancy sport. After all, it started with cars modified to carry moonshine... ma'm. None of this photos is "spectacular", but they are cool for me.

1959 Daytona finish, Lee Petty won by less than a meter. It took three days to decide who was the winner.


This was a close one, too, when Harvick beats Gordon in Atlanta, 2001. Not the closest finish in history, but close enough.


"The Intimidator" leans on Wimmer, Martinsville, 2005. This kind of "rubbing" can bring some problems to your "aero efficiency"...


Finally, podium of the greatest race I have ever seen. You find your own picture of the 0.006 seconds difference at the finish line. I prefer to post the coolest moustache of the racing world, after Graham Hill retired. Man, I love this guy! And the girls love him too... The emotions seem real (specially the "happy" face of Earnhardt, top right).


BTW, I have always wondered why don't they have girls (or guys for female pilots ) at F1 podiums... What's the point of winning if you don't get a kiss?

Good point. Perhaps the podium ceremonies should be a free for all like the good old days. Now there are more regs for correct procedure on the podium than for the cars! Also one of those green things round the drivers neck would be good.

If you think NASCAR is good, watch SCSA Stock cars. The British version. Unfortunetly we only actually have one oval here, but Rockingham is a great one. 4 corners, 40 cars, 100 laps. In the words of Elliot Carver (from Tomorrow Never Dies) Let the mayhem begin!

It really is not much better than NASCARS except you only get the highlights on TV so you don't have to watch 60 laps of nothing happening, the season always goes to the wire and because there is only one track which they race on several times a season all the drivers think they know it by heart and end up slamming into turn 4.
