Mercedes AMG F1 W09 EQ Power+

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

In these pictures I note that the W08 seems to have some ducting exit around the exhaust pipe, but the W09 does not. This might explain why the W09's exit ducting appears to have a greater area.

Waste gates; W09 has them too- have a closer look.

They are indeed, and that’s worrying with such low temperatures.

Is it really a proper indication though? The weather isn't really helping, and probably gives some skewed results

It's not, actually - the tires are being operated in a temperature window far below their intended specifications, so it is normal and expected

It's not worrying at all, the reason they're blistered is because of such low temperatures that they can't get the tyres working #-o

Anyone looking at either times, or tyre wear, in the past few days with temperatures so far out of their working range needs a bang on the head :wtf:

Sorry I don't know what you mean - the wastegate itself is attached to the turbine housing or the manifold. Do you mean the wastegate pipes?
Either way the bodywork is tight around the W09 exhaust pipe and wastegate pipes and not on the W08. And yes I did have a closer look, reviewed some photos from last year!

Anyone want to work out the exact wheelbase of the Mercedes, here's your chance! The yellow lines mark the exact position of the axles and there's a handy scale on the yellow line to work out the length. Should be able to do this with all the cars that have had a pitbox photo taken. I'd do it myself but I'm in the middle of some work!
