Can I ask what is changing on the 2019 car, and how we know this? I think I saw that the sidepods were changing, would this include the inlet style as well?

Longer chassis.
New gearbox.
New rear suspension pickups
New radiators/intercoolers + sidepod intakes further back
New bargeboard setup
New front and rear wing (obv)

There was some comments of wrong gearing affecting them.
I won't make a full analysis as other years, but taking a couple of random points in 8th gear (onboards are scarce this year!) I get, projecting to 11500 rpm in 8th:
316 km/h for Alonso
322 km/h for Hamilton
320 km/h for Vettel
329 km/h for Hulkenberg

So probably there is nothing outrageously wrong with the gearing in the McLaren.

Pointers to a Red Bull video with rpm data welcome!

Obviously... with what else can you compare ? it was a total fail from Mclaren to kill the works deal with Honda... and it showed that Mclaren is now one of the worst teams making an F1 car.....

Great stuff. Dont buy the whole gear ratio screw up, they have been doing this for the last umpteen time. Its always has been a draggy car since Peter P took care of aero. Under slipstream they have reached 350+ in some races, so aint no gearing problem there.

Same here. These cars now have so much torque that the gears are a bit irrelevant. That's why you never see them going above 115000 rpm despite the limit being 14.000.

The differences in velocity may be more drag related (different RW levels) than the actual engine (See a Renault faster than Mercedes)

I think it was a mistake to kill the works deal, but I wouldn´t call it a total fail since perfomance with Renault engine has been better even when this season chassis has some flaws. I think it may be a mistake in the long term if Honda manage to solve their problems, but for 2018 they´re faster with Renault, period.

Only time will tell if it was the correct decision or not, at this point stating it was a total fail only show your bias :wink:

2019 will be enlightening with RBR, both if they improve with Honda or not.

Circuits with high speed turns are hard hampered due to wrong gears ratio torque wise.
Turn exit and consequently max speed at the end of straight is quite hampered due to wrong gears ratio torque wise.
Long straight max speed is surely hampered due to drag and power unit.

Low torque + High rake + Exiting turn = Ouch! (2018 rear suspension could not solve this problem)

Note : less powerful motor can react better with low (in general) gear to gear ratio aside high fuel consumption.
more powerful motor can react rather sleepy with low (in general) gear to gear ratio aside lean fuel consumption.

Tip: ... less rake next year!
I loved the iconic McLaren-Honda
But most of all i love McLaren . After all first contact made with M23 that had a Ford Cosworth PU

The 11.5k revs has more to do with the fuel flow curve cap i'd assume.

I still think the most important thing for next year is to make the midwing area modular. It'll be even more important next year, and getting it to work with the T tray extension IS critical to the aero performance. Therefore whatever they do, they should design this area with an eye for upgrades. All the teams that took a big step this year focused on that area.

Does anyone know if there will be a Grand Prix Driver season 2? Found season 1 interesting, and it would be cool to see the differences between this year and last year
