Hemp???!!! What used to be used to make strings?
Other than the obvious joke... what for? Where?
Probably in plastics that are under minimal strain. It could also be part of the noise insulation. This is not new in the industry and is just good marketing by BMW to highlight something they already use.
They had in in the I3 from the beginning which was 2012 I think at launch.

The material structure is still visible in the interior. I like it

Plant-based composites are nothing new. Humans have been using wood for millennia - it's the original composite.
Turbo says "Dumpster sounds so much more classy. It's the diamond of the cesspools." oh, and "The Dutch fans are drunk. Maybe"

Something that I wondered about recently was cabin heating. There is a vid here of the Tesla option

Heat pumps are great till the temps drop down to almost zero degrees centigrade, then you need to add an electric Heating element to defrost the system Or run them in reverse which does the opposite of what you want when it’s cold.

We have this issue in winter whenever the temps drop below ~4c.
The impossible often has a kind of integrity which the merely improbable lacks.

Wonder if it works in reverse? Low drain cooling in summer?

You would think it'd be a reverse cycle heat pump - there's not much point in having two heat pumps (cause that is what a refrigerated AC unit also is, it just runs in the opposite direction).

What is the actual issue? Lack of heating or too much battery consumption?

I assumed it to be the tie in between the worst operating condition for the battery being the time of extra drain.
If any could be saved of the 'narrow end' it would be a disproportionate saving (on paper)

Isn't that just the problem, that your radiator is freezing?

yes, but as he says, it is not going to bother 90% of drivers. If its that cold a car is probably not what you want.

...

snow, thin wheels, rwd, no gears so constant push from still to top speed, loads of torque to keep the slide in control... I want!

Very few people in the world are going to need that sort of car to commute many days in the very low minus conditions where that becomes a problem. No doubt there will be some, but probably not worth influencing the car design for just a couple % possible customers who could probably find better options than a 'sporting' style car if conditions were that bad.

I may be wrong, but a better equipped 4X4 would be higher up my shopping list. Something with more ground clearance and a winch

@Big Tea.. I'm still a little confused -4°C= 24.8°F right? Nobody said anything about deep snow just temp.
Many people drive 2wd cars in 25° weather...Quite frankly, snow or no snow.
I will admit that every winter I am amazed by the declining talent behind the wheel though.
