Must be a great car, but why call it Corvette? Porsche would never call a mid-engined 911.

Admittedly a track only car but it is mid-engined and called a 911.

There's an extremely long history of mid engined Corvette prototypes, called Corvette. I don't understand why people keep twisting their knickers. Purists are weird.
The first one was in 1964 the second one was in 1968, Corvette CERV II, and Corvette Astro II, respectively.
The CERV II one was even 4wd.
There was even a 4 rotor wankel driven Corvette at one point.
The Corvette Indy was also a mid engine design.

Porsche keeps making their cars needlessly expensive like the Spyder and GT4 (mid engine cars). I thought of swapping my 981 Spyder for the 718 but the performance difference and the price increase was just not worth it. Perhaps when the GT4 comes in with a PDK I will take interest but in the mean time I for one am looking really closely at what GM does with the mid engine Vette. Hopefully the price is in the mid 60k for a 500 hp V8 in that bad boy!

Makes sense to switch to rear mounted engine, thinking of it. With the rise of (retro) muscle cars for the past decade, Corvette needs to up their level and be the American sports car in the likes of the 488 and the 720s but with a price point that will be more in line with American cars.
With the European tax system, a car the Corvette is about twice as expensive then in the US.

As a Dutch residence, a (high power) car are sooooo expensive, even compared to other European countries. For instance: a entry level BMW M4, before options is 125.000 US dollars. The current corvette, is from around 170.000 US dollars and a base 911 is 190.000 dollars.
For what you spend in the US on a Corvette, you can buy a mid range Ford Mondeo or a base infinity Q50, with a 4 cilinder engine.
American cars or AMG, M’s, etc are quite rare here.

From what I hear you're at least $10,000 short there and no doubt there will be a large dealer mark up.

I hate dealer mark-ups. Always liked the way Honda did the S 2000 when it came out. They forbade mark ups and if a dealer did they were cut off. They had done a bunch of pricing research and said they wanted it sold for that price.

Because it's a continuation and evolution of the original Corvette C1.
The next evolution of the original. C1 thru C7 and now C8
Why would you change a progression that's been going on for 66 years?
The bulkhead between the cabin and the engine bay. I'd been working on developing tuned sound deadening treatments and learning about the benefits of double glazing and so on. The Indy was incredibly noisy, probably because no real thought had gone into designing it for NVH as it was just a show car. But, in their wisdom they also built a drivable version without all the active systems and so on. So rather than deafen every journalist who drove it they gave me a few days to try and get the noise down to a bearable level. Lead sheet would not have been appropriate but might have done the job. Can't remember what the result was like.
