Racing Point RP20 Speculation Thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Looks like the 2019 car with new livery
To me it looks like the sidepods are more Red Bull-esque than the RP19.

Cant see any sportpesa? Wasnt it a 3 year deal?
That has me thinking this is fake.

Or maybe not I mean they are doing a special BWT Launch so maybe they are using an old car with a predominantly BWT Branding to show off at the BWT Launch .

Then we see the actual car at the Test?

I mean that's possible right?

If that is the 2020 car then I am disappointed in the lack of apparent evolution

Definitely possible, although would be slightly unusual to go to all the trouble to make two liveries in three days. Paint shop boys would be working overtime

Sorry but looks identical to me. RP19, exacly why they had it on show and not seemingly bothered about it.

I fully agree.
It's only the livery, and nothing more that has changed.

and indeed, what has happened to SportPesa?

SportPesa deal was simply described as ‘multi year’ so my guess is that it was one-year plus options, and SP didn’t like what they saw enough to carry on into 2020.

The car in the leaked photos looks largely the same to me, apart from around the bodywork at the rear, where it seems a little more tightly packaged than on any photos of the RP19 I can find. I wonder if the big upgrade part way through last year was always intended to be only lightly evolved for this year? RP/FI seemed to start the season with an interim spec car two or three times in the last few seasons.

There seems to be a 'monkey seat wing' at the 'new livery' image, but apart from that i see no difference.
If the packaging is even remotely tighter, then i personally believe this to be the case that the livery version is that of either and older or a newer updated version of the 2019 contender, compared to the picture of a car in the 2019 livery.
after all, in general, no car remains the same from Australia to Abu Dhabi despite it being the same season and team.
So if there are any difference at all, i would concider that in-season upgrades of 2019, and by no means a 2020 update.

we will see eventually, but personally, ithere is no evidence to believe that this is the actual 2020 car.

Unless RP has an identical car for this season just like in last (which would be pretty disappointing considering their statements at the end of last year), that is just the old car with a (maybe) new livery. I guess their scheduled car reveal is for tomorrow, so not much to wait.

based on live stream, it seems there is no sportpesa anymore on sponsors list. now it's BWT Racing Point
