Red Bull RB16B

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

But it is not uncommon to put the old body over the new chassis to evaluate the new suspension and engine, is it not ?

That is not allowed. You can only do 2 film days a year. Plus the regular tests. You cannot use an old chassis to test engine or suspension. Then top teams would test their new engines on track all the time.

Just my thoughts.
At the pictures with the car with the white tires you can see the RB15. At this moment Alex is driving it.
The pictures with the bleu tires is the RB16B.
Max was driving them both to compare.
On the Insta story of RBR you can see that they are only filming when Max is driving the car with the bleu tires,
so that must be the RB16B.

The filming days are just that. If they want to film last year's car or a mash-up then that's up to them.

Pause the video and you will recognize it is still the RB15.

Hopefully we will soon see some footage of the RB16B

Sorry to ask a somewhat unrelated question to RB16B, but as we know on the filming days that are allocated to the teams, Pirelli supply them with 'Demonstration' Tyres, so as to limit the amount of data they're able to accurately collect when running the car.

... if the day they run the filming day is wet, does Pirelli also supply Wet Weather Demonstration tyres too OR... would they use just the regular wet weather compounds?

I just read this:

Verstappen warms up in RB15 ahead of RB16B debut

Red Bull Racing are using today as their first day of filming to get to know the new RB16B. Sergio Perez was introduced to Red Bull's techniques in the RB15 yesterday and today the RB16B will make its debut on the track. Until then Max Verstappen gets the opportunity to get back into shape with the RB15.

The Dutchman is eager to make the most of his time in an F1 car, after more than two months without F1 action during the winter break. Perez made his entrance on the day of the unveiling, and for Verstappen today is all about finding his rhythm again. In any case, it provides some nice pictures from Silverstone.

So the Dutchman is currently driving the RB15, the car he managed to win three times in 2019. Later today, he will most likely make his first metres in the upcoming car, which he and Perez will drive. The Dutchman will then also have to share his car with his new teammate, allowing them both to get first impressions with the new car.

It's 100kms. They can run both RB15 and RB16B with that kind of mileage.

The 100km only applies to cars younger than 2 years. Older cars you can use for longer, as long as it is similar to how it was raced.

It makes sense, its a film day after all...

Honda has never been more prominent on the rear wing of the RedBull that gave them their first wins in a long time.

I know. That is why they have time to run RB15. RB16B will only be on track for about 20-30 minutes (not counting the time in pits)

It must be for aerodynamic reasons. I dont think teams can improve the suspensions a lot, without changeing the inboard suspensions*, and just by moving a wishbone
*inboard suspension changes cost two additional tokens.
Well it seems they managed to do it so im guessing they either did use 2 tokens or magically did it in a way that does not use 2 tokens.
They used the two tokens to modify the Gbox carrier in order to change the wishbones pickup points and angles for aero reasons, most probably.
Well that's just perfect and makes sense i wasn't aware of the gearbox carrier changes. They probably had to to accommodate for the Honda updates.

I wonder if 2 token were also spent at Alpha Tauri on the gearbox. It would basically mean that they only did that for the suspension changes and didn't truly need to change the gear box holder. Or that the geometry of the gear box changed enough to make them spend the tokens.

"We've elected to use our two tokens for a new nose and also redesigned the outboard front suspension," said AlphaTauri's technical director Jody Egginton."
