I just want a bit of that 2012 flavor with like 8 winning drivers in a season. We have 8 teams with GP winning drivers. If the cars are close, I expect a fight.
As 71 years of F1 has told us one thing, is that tight seasons, like 2012 (and also 2021), happen when the technical regulations are stable for a couple of years. Unfortunately, every time the technical regulations, either chassis, aero or engine, change in significant way, the teams are further apart than before. Not necessarily in the same order.

And to make it worse, budget cap will, more than before, slow down the development race and prevent others to catch up.

I'm so hoping I'm wrong, but going by history I'm probably not. :(

Visual aero changes for fans?

I fell in love with this site in 2011 due to the car threads and all the aero tweaks/exhaust treatment that fans fans could see. This formula is very heavy on what’s ‘under the hood’ but will the floor work next year be even more secretive? Will we have to wait for pic when they get craned off circuit?

Re: order, Merc + RB. Hopefully Ferrari make a jump enough to get into the wide open pit window that the top two teams enjoy.

I am just trying to remember the last time Ferrari did the best job of interpreting a new set of technical regs and were the best team straight out of the blocks.

We all know how the year ended, but the 2017 car wasn't really that bad at the start of the year...

I think so too. 2021 was not a true reflection of Mercedes aero abilities. They had to work with rules skewed towards RedBull's high rake concept. Since the field will be reset in 2022 Mercedes competitive advantage will return.

You don’t have to think for too long. It was in 2017.

Clearly the best car with a unique concept which then made the whole field copy it. Mercedes won the title because of the much stronger PU.

I speculate that Aston Martin will be fighting with Williams at the back - could be bad for Stroll's ambitions for that team.

Mercedes wasn’t at the front in 2021 they have to resort to tricks to get ahead like crashing into your opponents changing pu components multiple times, changing pitstop produres ,Illegitimate flexy wings.so the idea that merc will still be at front in 2022 without competition is bogus.the likes of Honda and Redbull did great work won championship and would be in contention next year.

Mercedes will run away in 2022. They did the 2022 engine test in 2021 car and they already fired the 2022 engine earlier. Hence Mercedes the team to beat again in 2022.

Ferrari/RB/Mclaren will be fighting for 2nd place. It is not any more easy task for RB to get P1 nor P2.

Alpine,AT and Aston Martin will be in midfield and Williams Alfa Romeo Hass for tail end.
