I mean more on corner entry either off throttle or a neutral throttle type scenario. I'm just trying to think about potential driver benefits to a SBW system.

I think the same would apply, as the rear starts to slide sorting it out with the steering will cause a perceptible lurch. Bosch's view of the world was that you drive a little model of the car at the same time as the real car, and if they don't do the same thing you apply brakes (or whatever) to the real car until they are doing the same thing.

My thinking was because the steering input to the wheels is ultimately controlled by the computer, it could use it's vehicle model to steer the car in a way that avoids the slide (or too high of a slip angle) before it happens rather than correcting the slide after it occurs. In a similar way to a skilled driver can drive a very pointy car around that 'neutral' point with correct steering angle and throttle/brake control.

It can definitely work, after all that is what the driver does, the question is how 'invisible' you can make it for the driver.

For luxury road cars.. not a problem. Most of those have already such a distant steering feeling that an artificial would probably feel better.
There will/would be a difference between F1 and all other cars, and that for F1 it would make more sense to make a system like that hydraulic instead of electric. And probably just a matter of time. First steps are made: throttle by wire, brake (for a bit) by wire, etc etc.

For road cars, especially in combination with EV, you can truly have a emulation car, bit like digital guitar amp.
With the addition of a clutch pedal and a gear leaver (only connected to the ECU), you could program the car to emulate different cars. Go to work in a Ferrari 288 GTO and have fun in a 1965 GT40.

It'd be a real BIG ASK, for an anodyne EV to effectively emulate the visceral feel/sound/aroma of
a brutish 427 Ford powered GT40, let alone its actual performance - being capable of punching out
320+ km/h runs - for hour after hour (with short pit stops) all day long,`60s sports-racing crudities 'n' all...

One other possibility of fully synthetic steering: any other analogue input could be used as the steering input. Fancy steering the car via the audio volume knob or the air-conditioning controls? Go for it!

Or with a steer by wire system you could tailor your feedback. Of course take out all the bits you don’t want, all the “noise” and even add something extra. That the wheel gets harder to steer when you are at the very edge of traction for instance. Or feel only the grip on a loose surface instead of the rumble of the bumps.

With steer by wire, wouldn't there be a benefit in having a kind of dynamic or adjustable Ackerman control? You could get complex and optimise the slip angle for both tyres based on the load sensitivity of the tyre.
