It’s worth noting that we where a bit spoiled over the last 2 years with Ferrari deciding to power their cars using gp2 engines, when there are 3 top teams , P7 is as good as It gets , when there are only 2 , P7 is an issue

Also , 2 key factors being the car clearly likes cold conditions and Barcelona has always been a bad circuit for us
So, what exactly does it mean, that McLaren created another dog of a car? I mean, if it doesn't work around Catalunha, it won't work anywhere, right?
Spain was relatively weak in 2019, 2020 and 2021. On all of those years the car ended up being the best midfield car overall.

No need to throw the towel in race 5.
No no, of course not! It's just so confusing as NOR is ill and RIC is... well... so the conclusion about any possible gains is quite murky

Perhaps you are the one in charge in this forum and you have to say what we forum members have or do not have to talk about
Your comment isn’t going to well received in the Mclaren thread though is it?

Mclaren developed further their 2021 car than any of the current midfield runners last season.
To see Haas and Alfa ahead at this stage of the season isn’t a big suprise to me… although it’s still frustrating
Add to it that McLaren effectively had less Wind Tunnel and CFD Time because of their position in the championship and that the facilities of the other 2 teams aren’t anything to scoff at and it’s in within the expected scenarios.
Exactly.
Mclaren are a midfield team.
All these comments about building a ‘garbage’ ‘dog’ of a car are senseless.
They are all capable F1 engineering teams.
YES I want to see Mclaren winning races but it’s an unrealistic expectation
Just a fan's point of view

You bring a raft of updates wort millions of dollars and you are a half a second slower per lap. Great job.

Well, we survived 2017 , we can survive anything, there is a kind of a nice masochism being a McLaren fan

Again, what?
As stated before , the other teams brought similar updgrades , McLaren Is a midfield team , always has been since 2012, you’re not going to change that with a few mid season upgrades

The gap to the leaders was actually over a second per lap slower on average, so you are wrong there.

And just because you bring a lot of new parts for the car, it doesn't automatically mean you will be faster relative to the competition. It is not surprising for an upgrade package to make the car better to drive for the driver while being the same on pace as the old spec, or even slower.

That simply means there's room to play with the setup (assuming there are no correlation issues). Give it a couple of races before calling the new package a waste of dollars.

McLaren needs a better 2nd driver. And cheaper.

Man, Danny really has been nowhere so far in McLaren. Finishing 40 or so seconds behind a clearly ill Lando is not good in any way, shape or form.

Apparently he struggled with having no rear end on the Macca. Maybe just not enough time with the new package to set it up properly. Clearly NOR got the car into a better setup window quicker.

Lando was apparently diagnosed with tonsillitis after the race. Amazing performance by him considering his physical limitations.

Norris is very good - no doubt about it.

I don’t think Dan has ever quite looked at home in this team yet and I desperately want him to, but it might just be that Norris is just a step ahead.

We still need a better car though, let’s see if we can make anything of this one going forward but I’m keeping expectation low

First let the team built a good car ffs until we start blaming Daniel. He was given a McLaren capable of winning once, and he won. The team need to up their game. Our driver lineup is not the first issue here.

McLaren is way too distracted with Xtreme E, FE, IndyCar, etc. instead of directing all resources for the full 100% towards F1. It is showing..

During the years we attracted some big names that were supposed to bring us back to the front. Prodromou and Key are not delivering so far. Maybe we should had spend money to shop for some better team members, instead of waisting resources towards some racing competitions nobody cares about.

Resources that can't be used for the F1 side and are nothing to do with it.

In fact probably give a slight benefit from shared costs if anything.... #-o

I remember that Peter Prodromou was on the Ron Dennis Mclaren Roster along with Andrian Newey, Mike Couphlan, Tim Goss, Pat Fry and another good name who moved to Williams if I remember correct. Are you sure Peter Prodromou who worked with Andrian Newey also at Red Bull was unable to learn anything beside him? Do you think that James Key is overrated?
