Judging the way that Hamilton's front wing survived Saudi Arabia last year, it's likely that the front wings are being "overdesigned" to help them survive contact a bit more.
I don't believe any data is ever classed as a waste of money, they may have tried something but gone too far, or even found it to not work as it should. As long as you understand what is happening then no change is a waste. Value for money is another matter....carisi2k wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 6:03 amActually they have. Most however have not been successful which means the money has been a waste.mkay wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 3:35 amTrue, but Merc actually hasn't introduced as many new parts as some of the other teams around them have (e.g., Aston, Alpine).
Also, Merc drivers have done well to avoid needless crashes and therefore saved quite a bit of money on having to manufacture extra bits.
The teams don't work in lbs, they work in metric / SI Units.
The teams don't, but I don't know who that person that tweeted it was or her sources. Her sources could be using pounds while she was thinking in metric.
If her sources are in the US, perhaps. Otherwise, it'd be kg all the way.e30ernest wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 2:43 pmThe teams don't, but I don't know who that person that tweeted it was or her sources. The "front wing" is the entire front wing plus the whole nose structure which includes the front crash structure, etc. There's quite a lot of metal in all of that, don't forget, that might be lightened or even replaced with a CF or other lighter material. Changing in the shape of the aero elements will also change the amount of material in the wing.
Just consider the weight of a LTR of resin. If what was 3 separate parts are now 'cast' as one it could easily be thatJust_a_fan wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 3:55 pmThe "front wing" is the entire front wing plus the whole nose structure which includes the front crash structure, etc. There's quite a lot of metal in all of that, don't forget, that might be lightened or even replaced with a CF or other lighter material. Lots of little bits here and there will start to add up.
Exactly. Easy to find mass when you start looking for it.Big Tea wrote: ↑Wed Jun 29, 2022 4:02 pmJust consider the weight of a LTR of resin.
