This forum contains threads to discuss teams themselves. Anything not technical about the cars, including restructuring, performances etc belongs here.
Perez took Turbo2 and MGU-H 2 in Saudi Arabia. This might be what Marko is referring to. I don't see why Max needs it.
.
Max also needs this because of the much better ERS system.
Correct, but Max is still on his second PU, and will use that in Hungary. Then we do not return to racing until after September 1st where Honda will have the ERS upgrade ready. That will be PU 3. Why does Max need 2 of the PU3 spec? He should be able to use PU2 in places like Singapore, Zandvoort meaning that PU3 would only have to do 8 races.
If reliability is not a concern, I do not see a reason for RB to give up points especially when they likely no longer have the faster car.
I cant see a reasoning for penalties especially with PU side which has been good to us so far. Of course there is the ERS deadline on 1st september, but both Max and Checo have took 2x PU, MGU-K and H, Turbo and 1x ES and CE.
Im fully under impression you can introduce a new ERS system without needing to take it as a penalty..Infact it wouldnt surprise me if they are already on the cars, or will be for either this race coming or the one after so theres 1month to evaluate the findings over the summer break.
Is there actually anything confirmed about the Porsche deal? Seems a bit odd considering Honda have just left and still working with RBPT. Not sure why 2 manufacturers would be helping the same team if they have bought a 50% share, which seems a bit high anyhow giving them 1/2 the team.
It's essentially confirmed via antitrust authority docs which were filed in multiple countries.
it will be an interesting operation. They'll just rebrand the engine to Porsche, still pay Honda to maintain it.
Honda won't allow that under any circumstance. My money is on an announcement for their partnership 2026 but 2023 we'll see more prominent Honda branding to reflect their current deal which was established fairly late in the day for this season. Honda desires more prominence on the cars, RBR want to highlight they are NOT engine builders at this time so they can benefit as much as possible form the newcomer allowance in 2026. Honestly, I'm not writing off a return of the HONDA wing '23

RB once had Tag Heuer engines
Totally different scenario.
It's vastly different having a watch maker brand exercise replace the name as opposed to a competing Auto manufacturer's at this level. It will never happen on currently raced units.
By the time the Porsche name is on the RedBull there will no longer be a Honda sourced part in the car. All this talk about Porsche should really be in a separate thread as the HRC PU will still be in the RB for the next 3 years.
I don't believe Porsche has actually bought any stake yet as the 2026 engine regulations haven't been finalized though that should be soon. It is entirely possible that the money RedBull gets from the deal pays for the engines Honda is providing, at least in a way.
Hopefully Honda will put to use their latest cutting edge research and development in the real world test of F1 in their final foray of their partnership with Red Bull. Perhaps their 3rd PU will have reliability updates that allow it to run hotter and be lighter.
I't will be interesting to see how performant and reliable the RBPT/Porsche will be, but that is a ways out.

Certainly. 2026 is far in the future. Honda power units until 2025, while RBPT works independently on the Porsche power unit.

I'm not sure that ~$500m USD for a 50% stake in Red Bull Technologies is something that Honda wanted to spend any time soon in any case, so this situation works best for all three parties IMO. RB gain a good future partner with a stake in the team, but no doubt suitable buy-back provisions if Porsche want to quit, while the actual RBPT factory will be on site at Red Bull Technologies.
