Nothing can change the result if there is a mechanical failure but what surprise me is that when Alonso "WOW" the team, team says nothing wrong with the car. They think Alonso just want to park the car and go home?
Yeah, I'm not sure how the engineer responsed to Alonso's question that then Alonso ansswered with a "wow". The question was "are we having deployment problems?" He could have said we're having water temp issues.

Even if they did say that they had no issues....They did keep asking Alonso to change engine settings to try and resolve the issue, so maybe they said one thing but thier actions said another. You have to also consider that other teams are listening.

The good news is McLaren only made up 6 points.
I saw onboard that Alonso's car's top speed was 318km/h at main straight without DRS, sounds way too slow for a Monza spec setup.
There is no doubt he was having issues.

If Alpine want to screw Alonso in coming race, Mclaren easily overtake them in wdc point. Let see whats Alpine plan.

- Do we have any deployment problem?
- No, everything is fine... but please stop the car, we´re retiring

The deployment was ok, it was the PU that was leaking water and overheating.

That doesn't explain why Alonso felt he didn't have power since lap 10. If PU was overheating, a simple temperature sensor alarm would have went off.

Alpine have a history of being weird and coded about the reason for their retirements.

I'm just trying to read into what was said and what they meant. Overheating and running hotter that they should be are 2 different things. Overheating it a black and white thing while running hotter than expected is alot of grey. maybe the deployment was there but they were pulling back on the PU power to keep it the PU from overheating.

I did notice that the lap after the the VSC Alonso's speed was alot better. Then is started to dip again. It was right from the start,

As water is heavy and everyone has struggled to get the weight down, could it be that radiated size is marginal? They are not going to want to add extra cooling at this track.

Yes it kinda does. Even without running into a PU protection mode, a hotter engine will be more prone to auto-ignition and with the cylinder pressure surveillance in these PU, this will mean retarding ignition timing thus losing power. This can quickly represent 10-15kW.

And then if it gets hot enough to get into a safety mode, this is likely even more kW lost.

Permanent says they can't explain the loss of pace.

Alonso has taken 5 PUs already. His 2nd PU that they used for half a race and retired it because of a water pump failure, they recently changed the regs so that they could replace the water pump in that PU. So I'm not too sure which PU they had the issue with but he should have enough PUs. That and they still haven't told us if they can fix the Monza PU. You don't want to take a new PUs at tracks that are hard to pass.

I did a quick search but can not seem to find a reliable list of who has enough points for next year. Any one have a reliable source please?
