Prost and Budkowski would react poorly to being canned. Enstone has executed on the chassis side. So you can say what you like but he has put together a good team. With the exception of the negotiations with Alonso and maybe the contract with Piastri they've hit all the Mark's they were looking to hit.
Being a prick and being successful are not mutually exclusive. So its possible, the project is a success. Im a bit reticent to judge a car's performance this year with the rate of development but they're not exactly setting the world alight. Maybe Im not seeing it but they seem quite a bit off from the top 3 considering they are a works team and this year was a fresh start. Maybe with their upgraded facilities and bolstered staff, they will close the gap.
Remember Rossi's goals were not to be challenging for titles this year. They were for shooting for fourth or fifth.
They have been that before Rossi. Frankly that should be the minimum expectation of a works team considering theres 4 of them. Lets see if they can actually compete at the front under him. Its hard enough to win in F1 when everyone is pulling in the same direction and while not impossible, teams that have politics, egos and marketing reasons dictating decisions, almost never do.

He is a straight shooter; the perfect team principle for AM at this stage.

great race pace for vettel.

AM is now the 5th team in race pace just 1-2 tenths behind alpine

AM has a decent race pace; no idea why they are so pathetic in qualifying.
Car looks strong in P1 & P2; comes Qualifying, it looks the slowest car on the track.
Is it anything to do with tire warm-up when the car is set for the race?

its possible that they have the same problem as mercedes in qualy.

The weird part is that they can do good times relative to the field in FP2 or FP3 on low fuel.

Looking at Spa, for example:
STR did a 1:46.6 in FP2, a 1:46.9 in FP3, and a 1:46.2 in Q1.
VET did a 1:47.8 in FP2, a 1:46.1 in FP3, and a 1:46.3 in Q1.

If we take Alpine:
ALO did a 1:46.9 in FP2, a 1:46.0 in FP3, and a 1:46.0 in Q1.

Their weekend progression is all over the place. Is this down to the drivers not getting it right in Q? Maybe. If VET just did his FP3 time he would have been into Q2 no problem. Two tenths is worth about 6 places in Q1.

If Aston Martin continues with the good development through this year and learn for next year, they could make some steps to the front of the midfield.

This is going to cost them dearly in Zandvoort...with limited or no chance to overtake during the race.

I wonder whether two fast laps in Q would suit them better. Or two laps to warm the tire before the fast lap. It’s a bit weird they don’t try anything. Cannot get much worse than P15

AM looks strong again in practice sessions but I won’t raise my hopes for tomorrow.Their pace will disappear comes qualifying.

i think that if Alonso was driving the AM this season, he would have been the best of the midfield the last races.

Yep they have a good race car and it’s reliable so Alonso would arguably be on more points at least.
