Aston Martin AMR22

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter does not belong here.

I expect that while this is the real AMR22, it still has early development parts on it.

This could still change dramatically come testing...

Beautiful car tho. I'm super impressed, and it's obvious that they put the work in on this!

I love the subtle irony of this year's Aston Martin F1 contender flanked by road cars that Newey had a hand in designing.

Front wing definitely design to try to encourage some outwash with the outboard being reminiscent of last generation front wings. Also, the shape of the trailing edge would suggest they're looking to shed a structure along the inside face of the front tyre.

They reduced the section of the monocoque above and below, no more on the sides of nose.
The bit around the 18 they have to have a 45mm radius on the edges at the AA plane

So, sidepod philosophy gives me Williams 2018 vibes. Chonkers in terms of width, but huge undercut.

And that pushrod seems photoshoped on one side and missing on the other. Perhaps hiding something there. Can we confirm with the real car from the event?
The actual car has push rod suspension

The fear of spec cars seems unfounded. Maybe the philosophies won't be as varied as previous generations but even the first two cars look plenty different.

I thought the rear wing would be much higher than that.

The volume might not be that different. The undercut is huge on the Aston Martin!

I know it's a rendering, but it looks like the rear wing/beam wing/diffusor is a solid assembly that slides over the rear crash structure for mounting. That could make rear changes in pitstops as fast as a front wing if true!

I wonder if the AM idea is to keep the hot messy air coming from the cooling vents from getting down to the top of the diffuser. By having that big "shelf" at the rear of the sidepod, "clean" air from the front of the car can be channelled where they want it.

Haas just appears to have looked at last year's Mercedes and thought "that car was fast, let's do that!" with their sidepod design.

Yes it almost reminds me the F92A double floor... or at least the first iteration of the RedBull from 2006

I gotcha. My only worry is that HAAS(*Ferrari) had sooooo much development time and resources that they may be the most iterations ahead in the search for the Prime solution...
