Aston Martin AMR22

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter does not belong here.

For all the talk about it being a RB clone, AM do seem to be loading the front wing a lot more outboard. Would lead to some very different flow structures further down the car.

This is an extreme level of copying. I thought the FIA brought in rules to disallow this after the 2020 debacle? I'd understand the sidepods but the floor as well?

It's just a copy from photos and eye witness accounts.

Saves a boatload of design and CFD time! Smart move espeicially since it's the start of a new formula!

So much for the Mercedes sensing them files and 3D scans! Lol.

The car looks gorgeous 😍

Also looks like Seb will be driving a Red Bull again, who’d of thought it?

At least they copied a good car this time round!

Be very interesting if the porpoising is under control like it is on the RB. If it does bounce, we can safely say that the suspension is doing the trick.

Have they copied the RB? Or is Dan Fallows simply regurgitating his work from last year?

Horner said last July:
“Our situation with Dan is really clear. He’s working on the [2021] car, he is working on next year’s car,” said Horner at the Austrian Grand Prix.
Fallows' departure was announced in June, if we assume Red Bull would logically cut him off to avoid leaking information on their 2022 car then the last time he saw the RB18 was 10 months ago when the car was in its infancy, yet the new AM looks almost exactly like the current RB18 behind the front axle, doesn't really add up

Nah. If it were suspension they wouldn't need to to change the bodywork at all.

Guess we'll soon see. Be interesting to see how it gets on with the Merc suspension.

Wonder if RB have any grounds for a protest since its almost....excuse the pun....a carbon copy.

So the car build by the 6 times consecutive world constructors champions (at the time) wasn’t a good one to copy, but the one build by a team who hadn’t won since 2013 is?

This is why it's the most dislikable team in F1. This and Laurence Stroll. And Lance. And Saudi.

But between Red Bull and Mercedes this year, it looks like the former are on top of their design. The sid pod contour edges look sharper and less rounded on the AMR22. The taper at the back also looks less pronounced compared to the Red Bull from the limited photos I've seen.

Its not even just the sidepods they copied, the floor is near enough the same aswell
Same cutouts, same strake arrangement, they really went for it.

They don't have RB's narrow gearbox.
