McLaren MCL36

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Drivers reporting the front end feel is much better, straightline speed looks a little better too.

But it seems Mclaren retained their zero/fat front undercut...

It's mostly the same sidepod, just that it got extended down to the floor with the ramp

Surprising considering there seems to be potential for it Image

Maybe they'll do that after summer, but they couldn't bring the undercut at the same time (like how Alpine stepwise moved towards their current sidepod)

The old side pods have a much flatter top vs the new ones which have a scooped out top created by a taller outer side pod section.

It's good if they were able to increase the downforce, and even add to the maximum speed, then they are on the right track.

Ferrari has a similar setup... Maybe that's not our problem ?

On the laps I watched front end was very sharp and consistent, especially compared to the other competitors. Straight line speed was OK but not great.

That's the old one ...

The wisest and most constructive thing to do would probably be to wait for more images but imho they pretty much did this:

Re: McLaren MCL36

Image essentially they created the all-too-familiar slab by bringing the rear of the sidepod rearward and outboard and then ramped it down and under the floor stay
