McLaren MCL36

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Probably just reducing load on the wing where it’s weakest.

Great picture of the MCL36, with the tunnel entrance exposed… You can also tell that it is still keeping the slim characteristic of it’s body work (compared to Ferrari / RBR)

Hmm, I can't even imagine how such a size could be useful. Is that the creation of some kind of useful whirlwind.

They prolly contain extra sensors for validation work. I’d be surprised if they stayed on past the practice sessions.

It’s a FIA requirement, all teams running larger mirrors… FIA trying to improve rearward visibility for the drivers… Not team driven

I think these are regular positions, sponsor stickers are already in place. Plus, I don't see any traces of sensors.

Is this a real initiative? Only info I can find is a claim by Tobi Gruner (AMuS) who often posts wrong information. THe RB and Merc covers simply look like covers; to protect the sharp edges and winglets in the garage.

You need large rear view mirrors to be able to see 19 cars behind you when you're constantly in front.
