It's amusing to remember that engines have gone both ways in F1 - the BMW M12 used by Brabham and others was based on the block of the M10 road car engine, for example.
Brabham's Championship-winning mid-60s V8 F1 mills (at the beginning of the 3000cc era) were like-wise road car
based via a GM-block equipped with a Repco Irving-fettled OHC conversion.
