McLaren MCL37 speculation thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Another car with plenty of exposed carbon. i don't hate it honestly
I hate that we're in an era where teams are skimming down on paint to save weight. Tells us the MCL60 is still on the heavy side.

Visually, the nose has become more rounded than a year ago.

Last year taught me not to get too excited and that my aero eyes are quite bad.

Hopefully this car is fast.

Could it be cost/time savings due to budget cap as well?

I was wondering the same thing... Will there be a correlation between black in the livery and the car's weight/performance?

We've only seen half the grid thus far but the two lowest ranked teams last year - AT and Williams - have a full color livery but 3 of 4 midfield teams (Merc, McLaren and Alfa) will have plenty of exposed carbon it seems.

Pretty odd if a full color livery is meant to be a reflection of performance (yes, the red bull was also full color but we will see if that's the real deal when the real car hits the track)

I think it’s the 2022 car, based on the fact that it still has the Gulf sponsorship and the color scheme doesn’t quite match the teaser that McLaren put out (driver numbers inverted, etc.)

They were gradually taking paint off throughout the season to save weight I think
