Alpine Renault A523 speculation thread

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Unremarkable... The new regs are simply too tight.

Nose looks lower & longer but it's probably because the FW center section has been raised and maybe retracted
Raised bottom front wishbone?
2m x 2cm mirrors?
Big sidepod shoulder 'RB' rib on BWT
Cannon tubes a bit higher and slimmer like some other cars
Shark fin gone (eaten up by longer or swept back engine cover?)

Maybe they combined the RB style rib with the ramp ridge like Mclaren

That's simply untrue. It's just that teams have decided to use similar designs.

For example, unlike the old rules cooling louvres are now allowed. So some cars in 2022 had no cannon radiator exits at all, like the Alfa Romeo Sauber.

unfortunately from a visual point of view im gonna agree with platinumrealot. All the cars this year seem to be going for some hybridised version of the RB side pods with the RB ridge/the ferrari "boat" (idk what to call it) - and everyone is bringing back the cannon exits in a form akin to RB and Alpine last season. I havent even mentioned the sidepod inlet underbite and ferrari-esque entry.

Yes, but it's not because of the regulations. It's because they chosen to adopt similar designs IMO. The sidepod and airbox shape is quite free under these regulations.

It's not even sure that this Alpine/Red Bull/Ferrari type design is even the best. It could be that the Mercedes design is the best or that another design that nobody has thought of yet is the best! Or that the discarded deep undercut design of Aston Martin or Alfa Romeo is the best given more development.

It just seems that teams are unwilling to take the risk. :wtf:

Nose is flatter than the 2022 version. The rest of the car, at first glance, does not look remarkably different. Presumably the floor and maybe the sidepod scallops are different but I guess that’s what more photos will tell us. Still have the outboard-loaded front wing concept from last year.

This Alpine F1 2023 still lacks a good slimming treatment towards the rear.

The water slide looks a bit smoother here. Less bumpy around the exhausts area...
