Don't confuse peak bhp with the rest of the engine characteristics. Sometimes its best to sacrifice a bit of peak 'pub-talk' figures for a greater range of power over TV e whole rpm range.

I've seen a lot of road/track cars here in the UK where there has been 50-75bhp less and those cars are much faster than those with more power, due to a better overall 'average' power over the rpm range

This has always been the case.

Honda documented how shaving off 12hp off peak in 2006 for some mid range was faster around Monza, of all places.

We do all sorts of torque shaping work with our engines in real life. Making a big peak number is actually relative easy (on a naturally aspirated engine. Making a good peak but with more power in your entire operating range is hard).

BUT, you need to factor drag into your energy calculations. If you add up energy deployed, you need to subtract it from energy consumed for comparative purposes, and that doesn’t even factor in turning that power consumed into downforce / grip.

If you look at terminal speeds over the last 35 years, they’re relatively the same. The current cars just take all that extra power and convert it to downforce, and that’s ultimately why they’re faster.

Red Bull is so quick that grid penalties are irrelevant

I don't trust this....Surely they aren't this quick.

Better to take a 10 place grid drop late in the season, than a DNF now when they have a performance advantage.

I imagine they'll be looking to take the penalties at Spa again.

Is it possible to take a new part and take the penalty if there are unused parts in your pool?

I wonder if they will lose some pace or the car will fall out of the window when the track temps drop. Surely something will unseat this level they are showing....

This sounds like a thing Horner would say. "See, we aren't that ahead. It was just the morning sessions"
Jokes aside, I think Leclerc will be within 3 tenths to Max

Yes same I don't think the gap is anywhere near realistic. Checo too will be a lot closer to max

What is going on with reliability , so far we’re 2 race weekends in , RB has blown a gearbox and had to replace 1 ES & CE as well as DeVries entire engine.
Ferrari is already taking engine penalties, Mercedes managed to blow up Norris’s Pu in the first race. Is Renault the only reliable drivetrain?

What a deception. And so we go from “max will win all” to the package is AGAIN not reliable. RBR has never been a top team in this regard.

Something flew off the back of the RB when it happened.
