AlphaTauri AT04

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

is this porpoising or bumps on track ?
Ground effect aero will always have some form of bouncing. I don't expect any car to completely eliminate it.

Very ill fitting bodywork and a lot of screws. Looks like a rushjob, or this set of body panels was not worth getting 100% as they'll race something different.

Are they having separation before the air gets to their floor edge wing?

No I don’t think that’s separation. The floor edge wing will affect the air upstream as it’s showing right there. Without CFD it’s hard to see if that’s intended. They might be turning the air to induce vorticity

That makes more sense to me

What is causing so much downwash on the side of the sidepod?

My guess is that there is a region of low pressure around the sidepod undercut (due to the curved geometry, think an airfoil surface turned on it's side). The air around the side of the upper sidepod is being sucked down into this lower pressure region.

Someone should tell all those Predators in invisible mode to look left and right before crossing the street.
