McLaren MCL60

wow stop the press, WHAT a change, can you believe it, this was hailed as the big change in concept/direction... joke aside im well aware that small changes to the floor can have huge impact so, lets se :-)
Joke aside, we saw what happened in 2017 in Baku when ALO raced competitively with most of his floor missing. Must be super frustrating for all the aero engineers who spend hours finessing every last mm.

I was expecting an AMR-22B kind of change.

I think what should be highlighted in this picture is the fact that the tunnel ramp is much lower in this area.

The ugly bump in the bodywork is just because of the side impact structure and when they lowered the floor in this area, more of the SIS is exposed. If there was no SIS requirement, there would not be a bump here.

Beam wing isnt a singular flat plane like the tweet above makes it look like its still two elements just very flat, from F1 weekend warmup vid on YouTube, at this timestamp :https://youtu.be/fvQPsENTfWQ?t=1709

With the season restarting, the usual reminder is apparently needed.

The car threads are more strictly moderated than other threads. Please focus on the hardware in the car threads.

If you posts starts with "maybe", it is (maybe) speculation.
If it mentions how to be faster at this track, you are probably talking pace and track position.
If it about WD40, no need to comment ;-)
Those and a few more have been obliterated.

Pace, speculation, etc, PLEASE IN THE TEAM THREAD INSTEAD OF IN THE CAR THREAD.
Rivals, not enemies.

The real McLaren championship begins in Baku: the bottom is revisited on the MCL60
Baku represents the real start of the season for McLaren, which has declared since the beginning of 2023 that important pieces would arrive from this appointment to fill the technical delay. It is no coincidence that Lando Norris defined the Baku MCL60 as the car with which Mclaren should have started the season. Team Principal Andrea Stella was very frank in expressing his thoughts on the car brought to the track this year, the result of many problems related to the internal organization of the team, still in the "assembly" phase. The first important package, of at least three, will be brought to the track in Baku, which, as announced by Andrea Stella himself, will not upset the aerodynamic concept but it should allow for an important step forward. The main changes to the car concern the bottom , part of the car which with these cars is the main object from which to find load and efficiency . McLaren's goal is to find high-efficiency cargo, just what they've been missing since floors are 15mm higher. The entire side skirt has been visibly redesigned , with the aim of extracting turbulence from the underside, and instead bringing a cleaner flow to the diffuser through the micro-fin in front of the rear wheel.
The novelties are also under the fund and are certainly the most important in terms of load generation. The bottom has also been partially revised in the venturi entry area, in the final part of the external fin. The upper edge has also been revisited to guarantee different management of all the air that crosses the undercut and which is very important for minimizing the drag of the car body. The surface of the floor that incorporates the anti-intrusion cone , designed to act as a real flow diverter, has also undergone refinement work.
In terms of aerodynamic adaptations, McLaren remains quite loaded in the rear wing. The compromise to have less drag is given by the new beam wing design , with the first element being practically a neutral wing. A not entirely innovative solution, used by Red Bull in mid-22 and then copied by Alpine.

Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Shallower outer section of the floor there. Seeking higher velocity outwash at the front and even perhaps intention to push more air through the curly bits behind it.

Re: McLaren MCL60

lets see, if the new floor bring that much load and they therefore can trim the rearwing and combined with the change in beam wing, the gains could be decent
