Seems less basic than the early W13 at least, it somewhat resembles the early-spec RB18 now in terms of preferring lateral expansions and contractions (with the various notches at the step) over vertical ones to reduce ride height sensitivity like Red Bull's 2022 launch spec?
Excellent points!AR3-GP wrote: ↑Sat May 27, 2023 1:08 pmThere is some similarity between Merc's latest floor and the RB18/19. The treatment at the rear of the boat section is similar. The kink in the boat section at the middle of the floor is also similar. This is a great contrast to what Merc debuted the W13 with.
Perfect underbody shot - probably the rarest angle to ever see one of these cars from. The most interesting part for me is probably seeing how sculpted the underside of the front nose is just ahead of the monocoque join - almost seems like it's similar in concept to the bulge/channel that the 2019-2021 mercedes had just ahead of the cape (except, without the cape?). Maybe some downwash or vorticity shedding to feed the floor with is the goal of such a shape?
good for them, imagine bringing a new floor and it gets revealed to everyone on day 1
The Mercedes looks to have rounded sections as well to me, at least the area directly behind the vanes.

Yeah, but don’t mistake complicated ≠ better.
