Alpine A523

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Laurence Barretto just said on F1tv that someone at Alpine told him that many of the upgrades they had planned for race 1 arrived early so they were able to test them last week, so that's why we might not be seeing as much change as we expected

Buxton just said the Front wing was going to be an upgrade, and that there's an aero upgrade at the rear suspension (maybe just a different shroud?)

Harmann said a big visual change.

Was he really just talking about the paint job?

Maybe the extended boat-tail / keel, and those louvers in the waterslide.... but to add to the confusion; they didnt run them today AFAIK

Car upgrades for Australia

Albert Fabrega 📸

intricate. Fin added on the side of halo. Seems to now be modular so can easily be changed

I’m curious about the gear in the gear in the damper, any ideas?

From the article accompanying the picture they will bring upgrades worth 3 tenths by imola and more upgrades by summer break will bring total development to 6 tenths.

According to Matt Harman, Alpine ''are bringing a new floor to Baku amongst some other aerodynamic and mechanical items. We then have a further development at the following race in Miami and something further for Imola after that.''

The leading edge of the main plane curves rearwards to produce a shorter chord length. Main benefit of this might be to keep modularity high and prevent a new endplate from having to be used with the low downforce wing whilst also allowing the shorter chord length which could offer less parasitic drag

There is also a small cut in the front wing

That cut in the front wing is very strange... What could be it's intended effect?

With the season re-starting, a reminder for everyone that the car threads are moderated more strictly than other threads, with the idea that car threads should focus on the hardware and interpretation of how it works. And on the specific car in each car thread, please. We like our car threads shorter, focused and fact dense.

If a post is about the competition side of F1, be it faster/slower than, lap times or driver behavior, please, post it in the team threads instead (or even in the race thread!). Team threads are moderated very loosely, go wild in there. Future car parts, also in team threads, please, as they are by definition speculation, at least without an insider source.

Posts made in the car threads that are not focusing on the hardware are subject to be moved to other threads or, most likely, removed (as there are too many).

The target for this car is top 4. Pah! that will be only after very extreme developments! It seems to have all the elements to be fast, but it just isn't.
