Interesting comparison of 2022/23 quali-gains/losses of every team:

Top speeds from quali
Ferrari still reasonably fast in straightline speed with their new RWs
RBR took everything out and it's still good through the turns.

Perez didn't even do a second run! And you people tried to downplay the gap last weekend in Bahrain when Leclerc didn't do a second run vs the RBs. You can't have it both ways.
well, yes, but because he messed up his lap (missed turn 1) when trying to improve. It's not like RBR did only one run because they were that far ahead. I expected more from Ferrari as well, but Perez first attempt was still pretty good.

Never did what you accuse me of.

Perez had purple in S1 mini sectors until told to abort going by the F1TV commentators.

Not sure how that equates to messing up his turn 1 however, unless he completely cut the corner and gained an advantage. Which I can’t see. As he wouldn’t continue the lap

But it definitely was... Leclerc was 1.1s off Max in FP3 even assuming the rosy prediction of you folks that he'd be 0.5s faster than Checo we are talking about improving the performance of the car from FP3 to quali, relative to RBR by over 0.6s. So yeah I was very much right on the money.

his first three mini sectors were purple because he had a tow from Alonso, then he missed the breaking point

Rb's biggest gains were coming from S2 and S3. AMR is probably the best car in S1. We don't know what laptime he would have done. Even if he didn't improve in S1, he could have found pace in the last 2 sectors. 1 messup in 1 part of the circuit doesn't mean no part of the first lap at some other part of the circuit couldn't have been better.

Verstappen's level suggest there was more performance to be had from the car, even if Perez missed T1.

It will be interesting to see if checo does similar to what Max did last year. Get out of DRS and go straight into management on the tyres. Checo’s race to lose tomorrow IMHO.
If Alonso jumps him, then I doubt if he can even be on podium as he loses performance badly when behind cars and the Mercs and Ferrari will mug him.
I don't think so. I think Perez will be either 1st or 2nd (to Verstappen). The car is quick. His long runs were strong in FP2. Half a second clear of the others. The Aston Martin is a dog on the straights. Leclerc has a grid drop. Who is going to challenge Perez except for Verstappen?
In theory... it should be Sainz if he can jump Russell at the start. But

RBR built a hell of a car.

Great job by Perez today. Props to LEC, ALO, Aston, and Russell as well.

I think Alonso will lead out of T1. Perez's starts of the past haven't impressed me.
That would be fabulous, even if he doesn't have the pace to keep him behind. He certainly has a good knack of jumping places at the start, so if Perez falters he should shoot past him.
