Aston Martin AMR24

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Can we start calling these "upgrades" downgrades?? I mean, I know they aren't meant to improve the car overall, they are just the base of the AMR25, but they are making the car more difficult to drive, specially creating a lot of understeer.

Also, bad upgrades for Mercedes as well, they had a good sprint qualy but in the sprint itself they were eating their tyres and in normal qualy they weren't particularly fast. They also made the car more unstable. What's wrong with Mercedes wind tunnel?? Can't wait to finally use our tunnel and see if that was causing correlation issues. Also, do you think Mercedes rear suspesion causes all these tyre deg issues? Cause its been the same for us the whole year.
These comments should be in the Aston Martin team room, not the AMR24.

In the end it seems they went for Austin front wing, Hungary sidepods and Imola floor. Frankenstein just like last year

Where did you learn that? Thought I saw the Austin sidepods on Alonso's car in the F1 TV feed.

Nevermind, it wasn't the Imola floor but rather Suzuka's:

In Austin, the fifth underbody of the year was conjured up from the hat. The stations until then: start of the season, Suzuka, Imola, Budapest and Austin. Because nothing worked in Austin and the Aston Martin was only really fast in two corners, but sometimes lost dramatically in the others, a big comparison test was held in Mexico. There were three sub-floors to choose from: Suzuka, Budapest and Austin. The winner was Suzuka, the oldest model. The drivers immediately recognized progress and would have landed in Q3 without the red flag. Grade: 2

Aston Martin went away empty-handed for the second time in a row, but Mexico was an important step forward for the team. A big underbody comparison test ended with the Suzuka soil being the best. All other parts of the car were Austin. The drivers immediately felt a calmer driving behavior. The red flag in Q2 cost Alonso and Stroll the Q3.
Not sure why it says "All other parts of the car were Austin" as sidepods are clearly not Austin spec. Either Suzuka or Budapest.

They already had reverted the floor entry back to pre-Hungry.

Austin - reintroduces some of the changes they brought in Imola with a twists... That's the direction they want to go but they can make that drive-able.

Looks like throughout the year with most updates they gained more questions and unknowns rather than pure performance. It's just weird to see time-consuming and expensive updates being replaced by an old spec just after a race or two. I hope they will find the solution for this quickly because how can you build a car for 2026 knowing that the tools that you are using in the factory are not giving you the expected results on the track?

So Austin was an evolution on Hungry.

Sometimes, the last update of the year is bringing in parts from the next year.Often those parts will have been designed to work with a different chassis. We saw a bit of that last year where they kept trying open the gap under the side pod and use a different floor edge but couldn't get it to work cause of where the rads where in 2023.

They have been using Hungry upgrades for the most part, which is a change from Suzuka we had been using.

I do agree with you... The Imola upgrades went backwards, Hungry was a correction on Imola and was still kind of a flat upgrade and Austin upgrades didn't work.

To be honest the picture with the rake, looks like a floor I've never seen before. Looks like a Suzuka with the Hungry curve at a slightly higher level. Since the rake is in front of the floor, they don't really care about the floor for the data they're gathering ...

The 2nd picture from that angle it's hard to tell if it's Suzuka or Hungry(you need to see the car from the back to clearly recognise the difference). In the race, the F1 TV images seem to confirm it's Suzuka. So you're right.
