On a chassis that scored 100 points in the first races, creating a comfortable gap. There was no fight for the title, just an attempt to catch up. An easy title for him.

I would think it's unlikely that the mini DRS was worth ~one second a lap, which is more or less what they lost compared to a "normal", Baku like performance. They also significantly messed up the setup this weekend.

This season has been very interesting for F1, with all the ups and downs for every team.

I would think it's unlikely that the mini DRS was worth ~one second a lap, which is more or less what they lost compared to a "normal", Baku like performance. They also significantly messed up the setup this weekend.

The issue is the balance, not the DRS itself. The mini-DRS allowed then to run more wing and keep the car loaded in the corners. Once your balance is gone you start to grain and then you lose more.

Baku was extremely close pace-wise with Ferrari and Red Bull, and it was here as well judging by qualifying. Norris felt the Q pace was OK but race runs a disaster in practice. It’s clear that the tyres were the main differentiator this weekend for a lot of teams. The ”mini DRS” doesn’t cause graining and other tyre issues, that’s for sure.

Do you ask this about the races in the Arabian Peninsula?

It's a much warmer day today than yesterday. Quite noticeably and also much windier than yesterday. Today the wind is gusting against the flow of main straight. The DRS and slipstream will be crucial, so being able to put power down early and making the pass late so that no counter slipstream can be taken.
I am watching next to the marshal stand on Harmon in front of the kink at the end of sector 3 and it looks like current conditions will mean a slightly warmer night. The teams that have mastery of the hard tyre will likely eek ahead but a safety car or red flag is not out of the picture.

What does the 'vibe' feel like at this race?

It doesn't give me anything at all on the emotional responsometer* and the footage looks like this is reallt poor for viewing and seeing a car out and performing.

Maybe I am a Luddite and perhaps this is the new school way it is going to be. Maybe! It just looks dead behind the eyes.

The actual race though . Impressive Mercedes pace and very satisfying to see Carlos having no issues to drive for himself.

Max deserves the title and plaudits but should be tighter next year.. We always hope.

The most idiotic post race shenanigans I've ever seen. Car ride sitting jammed with sweaty fellow racers to stand in front of a fountain for 1 min interviews. Then car ride back to 'the main area' for the podium and press bytes. They haven't changed it after last year. Someone should tell them that a rolls royce car ride (what was the third car for, who was in it?) and emerging from a hydraulic lift onto a plinth is better suited to cocaine snorting movie/pop/rock stars, who need to 'give an inspiring message to their Vegas fans', not the winners from a race.
