Has anybody used this software in the past? If so, is it difficult to master? (I'm asking because I'm taking that course next semester).

Thanks

Yup, have used this software, its quite easy to use. Don't take the course if you dont have to, just use the provided tutorials - they're great!

Agreed. SolidEgde is good. Most 3D CAD packages are similar now so SolidEgde is good training for CATIAv5. Many F1 teams use this.

On the subject of CATIA...my company is using only CATIA software. I know that you said that Solid Edge is a good foundation for CATIA, but how much of a step up is it to go from SE to CATIA? By that, I mean, is it possible to learn SE and then, with some practice switch to CATIA, or are additional courses necessary?

Thanks!

SolidEdge is alright. The sequenced actions and assembling can be a little tricky at first, but once you've got a hang of those, you can build some pretty cool stuff relatively quickly.

If you have access to CATIA v5, start using straight away. They are similar in theory. Are you able to get onto a CATIA v5 course?

No, I don't think so. I don't think that my school offers that course. However, like I said, my company is only using CATIA, and since I still have an access to everything over there, I was thinking of firing up one of the computers and playing around with it...that is why I was asking you whether I would need any additional training.

I'll ask at my office for you and let you know. We have CATIAv4 and v5 and IDEAS.
