NSX or M3?

Would you rather have a 1991 Honda NSX or a 2002 BMW M3?

I'm guessing he's deciding a used car purchase.
Haven't driven either one, though would like to. I have owned a few old classic sports cars. So strictly on terms of resale, the NSX would be my choice. The Bimmer hasn't completed it's full depreciation cycle yet and the Honda is a sure future classic.
I'm also guessing that the NSX will beat a M3 around a road course, the BMW is handier day to day, and it certainly can't be called slow.
So your intended use and term of ownership are factors here.
If you're looking for cheap excellent used semi-exotics, try a mid 90s 928 for even less money. I'm still trying to buy my 91 928 GT back from my brother in law.
Screw it, buy the NSX, it looks like more fun. Thats really all that matters.

I am indeed considering them both as a used purchase.
I was all up for the M3 until I saw an immaculate NSX for sale at roughly the same price.
The M3 is more useable and probably faster to be fair (340 bhp vs 270 bhp) but the NSX is an NSX
I have to use the car everyday for work so the M3 makes sense but I have always wanted an NSX (I never thought I would be in a position to buy one) and although I have never driven one can imagine it's something quite special! ?!?!?

Don't worry about it, the NSX is perfectly fine for everyday driving. If you drive it like a normal car in traffic, it behaves just like a normal car. But learn to drive it and you can amaze everyone, including yourself, on a twisty road. Oh and the good news is that it's just as reliable as any other Honda and fairly inexpensive to maintain. Go for it!
(OK, I'm biased, never really cared for BMW's anyway, though I have owned them, not M-series models though)

My driving instructor stopped me in view of a roundabout and told me to watch all the BMWs that go past and see how they drive. In a couple of minutes we watched 3 BMWs and each driver commited an offence on the roundabout that would lead them to fail their driving test. No other car we saw did anything wrong, my instructor explained that the kind of people who buy BMWs usually think they're the best on the road and perform stupid and dangerous manouvers, and he's right, its quite scary to watch.
Obviously not all BMW drivers are like this, my mates dad is a good careful driver in his estate, but its a good reason to avoid them I suppose, you'll turn more heads in an NSX too.

NSX - no question.
It's a genuine contender for classic status. Something a bit rare and a bit special.
No doubt the BMW is good, but I would take the Honda.
I own two low, rear engined sports cars and you get a whole different FEEL to driving. The ride/handling balance is better; with a low CofG the chassis engineers can control roll/pitch and still give you decent compliance. You can't beat the feel of laying the power down on a rear engined car - they just dig in and go

Unless your work is implying you have to transport clients or collegues from airport, to restaurants etc, you should go for the NSX. Others have given enough reasons, for my part I'd say if you aim for sportivity, an MR drive has the upper hand in terms of pleasure, and as other said, the NSX is able to behave like a normal car.
But rear seats aren't just a detail! Think carefully about this aspect, 2 seaters are exclusive (and somewhat egoistic), your wife or GF might prefer a more "family-biased" BMW...

If they're roughly the same price, something is wrong. A 2002 BMW M3 should be about US$10,000 more than a 1991 NSX.
You should look into that before you make a decision.

The BMW M3 is the way to go. The only issue I had was a recall for engine connecting rods... I guess alot of engines blew and they had to change the design. The only other thing that sucks is you might get errors that light up on the dashboard and it has to be always rebooted from the car dealership which is not covered under warranty ($$$). The only negative about the NSX is that the interior is basically 1990 and they have never changed it.
