Casey Stoner of Ducati Corse wins the Chinese GP 2007. After a record pole start from 'The Doctor',Rossi,he was passed by Stoner, who had the speed advantage over the Yamaha of Rossi,
reaching upto 340kph on the back straight of the Shanghai Intl Circuit, whereas Rossi could do 'just' 333kph. After passing Stoner for 1st place on the back straight on lap 15, Rossi ran wide at the hairpin turn 13,
and messing up hid chances of a win, he went on to the grass and even Hopkins of Suzuki went past him, but Rossi quickly o.t. him for 2nd place. In the end Stoner won by 3.033sec over Rossi, a great race for the Aussie.
Earlier in the seaso, Rossi struggled with his tyres at Istanbul in the Turkish GP and finished 10th! very low by his stds., but they got rid of it and gave a strong performance in China by breaking the lap record during qualifying.

Imagine situation in 2007 season with Rossi on that amazing Ducati! Rossi said that he has never seen a bike so much faster on straights. According to him Ducatti is 20 kph faster than any other bike!

FIM opened their engine today and found it completely legal!

I know!! that Ducati was Fast(note the capital F) on the straights..where Rossi reduced his gap in the twisty corners of Shanghai, Stoner trounced the Yam on the straights,,,also that Ducati was very wobbly in the corners, the back was sliding horribly, Stoner really had to control it to perfection!!I give it to him...but if it was Rossi on the Ducati, boy oh boy!!he d have been miles ahead of the rest

Manchild - Thanks for the pictures. My first motorcycle was a 250cc Ducati Mach 1 - I've always admired the marque and their engineering.

Ahhh... gotta love that desmo drawing :) It was the kind of engine superiority we haven't seen in F1 since 2001's Williams-BMWs.

I disagree with "Rossi even faster on Ducati" though. IMO Stoner really is that good. He's worked really hard this preseason. Beat his highly-rated, coulda-been-2006-contender teammate by miles. What more could you ask?

Rossi did have an impossible task, he had to find performance that didn't exist hence the mistakes but, the recovery was great, he went off got back on and went back to pushing and getting second. Probably the position he would have had even without the mistake. Must be frustrating though, when your opponent's biggest advantage simply comes from twisting the wrist.

Le Mans will see ducati struggle I think, Rossi will have to use the race to build up his cussion.

Yeah...Dr. Rossi is good in recovering, but the Suzuki of Hopkins was slower than his Yam, plus a talent diff of 30% got him ahead in no time.Meanwhile, Stoner was in a class of his own 8)

that reminds me of the Dodge Tomahawk concept with the Viper's 8000cc V10..500bhp..and a claimed top speed of well over 400kph!

Is that an L-twin? and not a V-twin?or are the two things the same?coz ive only heard of Ducati using that term

It's a V-4 rs.raikkonen - notice the airbox between the V, and the 2 exhaust outlets per bank located on the outer side of each bank. The second picture of the desmo valve gear also suggests a V-4 design. The V-4 seems to be the configuration of choose in MotoGP - although Ducati is certainly legendary for their V twins.

All bikes in MotoGP are V-4's since it's the best way to take advantage of the displacement limit.

Also, what does everything about how tragic Honda's situation looks? They thought they could get away with just removing a cylinder and now they have a sub par bike.
