Did Mp4-20 have a thicker nose cone or the picture is at a different angle?

That is correct , MP4/20 had a thicker nose , also MP4/19B in Monza 2004 .
Mp4/21 , MP4/19 , MP4/19B had a very narrow drooping nose ( called crocodile nose ) .

Great topic!
I'll correct a little mistake out there.
The front wing on the pic marked as MP4-19B was raced already with MP4-19 since Malaysian GP
It gave them a coupla tenths advantage IIRC.

The front wing you are reffering to was first used by MP4/19 and was inherrited by MP4/19B . The two wings had different nose pillars and profiles .
I wanted just to point that MP4/19B and MP4/19 had the same noses
( focus on the noses and forget the front wings) and i had no intention to compare the front wings . Thanks anyway for your comment . Keep it up ....... more posts makes the article more accurate .

dear bar555, i dunno how to thank you enuff for ur efforts you are just invaluable !!!
i was surprised at mclaren's switch from narrow (mp4-19) to wider front nose on the mp4-20 but it was a big success, but then again they switched back to the narrower ones and finally it has worked for them.
could some1 share with me here what are the benefits of switching from a wider front nose to a narrower nose ? my own reasoning:
wider: more frontal downforce, sharper handling
narrower: more air for cooling
is this correct, or there's still much more than meets the eye ?

...and more.
narrow - less drag (?)
wide - more room for ballast
and more... (?)
I reckon the 2005 change for wider nose was probably caused by the changes in tech regs ( front wing rise by
5cm(?) ) thus the need for extra front downforce.

And possibly to divert more airflow away from the new Zero keel?

The lesser the front cross section the lesser is the drag if I'm not mistaken

How far either side of the light does is it before the rear wing becomes effective. It must be a few cm otherwise I would have thought the disturbance of airflow from the flip up on the light would have been detrimental rather than beneficial overall.
