...in the world?
You will be very surprised to find out it's Lego. They produce over 306 million tires per year making then the world's highest volume tire supplier.
Lego also turned 50 this week.

To say "the largest tire manufacturers" when referring to who makes the largest tires would be poor English. If I'd meant that I would have said "who are the manufacturers of the largest tires" or "who manufacture the largest tires".
The "largest tire manufacturers" implies they are the biggest in the tire business - either making the most tires or being the biggest tire company. Lego, according to their 50th anniversary news article make more tires than any other manufacturer and therefore are the world's largest tire manufacturers (as the thread title says

).

I'd be curious to know how the rest of the field stacks up.
I know Kenda makes a lot of stuff behind the scenes.

It is a funny wink from the Lego company to present things in this manner, but I wouldn't call those "tyres". I may be mistaken, but I believe those wheels for toys are made in hard materials, plastic surfaces. For me a tyre use some gum-like compounds, it has to be grippy not only from it's shape, but also from it's chemical nature.
I wouln't call a wooden wheel "tyre" for instance.
But there are some toys, RC cars actually, that use some elastic band rubber, which are quite similar to a scaled down tyre. Dunno if Lego manufacture them though.

Lego tires are definitely rubbery. Even the small ones (I just checked

Who are the largest tire manufacturers
suggests there are several large tyre manufactures.
which only one was provided in answer
or suggests that you are seeking to know who the manufacturers
of the largest tyres are.
i linked a pic to this interpretation
Who IS the largest tire manufacturer
is perhaps what you intended to ask
and it would suggest that there is only one, and after all
'there can be only one' (highlander)
please note
this is a humoristic post on my part and is intended to show
the fun that can be had with the English language (here i refer to
the original and not some ex colonies interpretation of it) it is
wonderful and nearly always is open to interpretation, it makes for
brilliant legal terminology that appears to convey information but often
in fact is just drivel
pedantry is such fun

For the "Largest tire manufacturer" I would nominate the one with the bigger income. Now we need Ciro´s graphics to ilustrate worlds volume production and $ per company. But I would not bother him for this silly question, as he may be on holidays!

You are right on the "Are" vs "Is" call but the meaning of the original post correct insofar as correct English use goes. The "largest tire manufacturer" does not imply "the manufacturer who makes the largest tires" at all - unless you use backwards, Yoda-style, writing logic.
Nuff said. Lego made the claim; by units of product they are correct; therefore their claim to be the worlds largest tire manufacturer is correct, albeit very misleading in a humourous way.
It's not the end of the world.
