I heard Ferrari already has there 2009 Car in the wind tunnel. Maybe with less downforce we can see them go back to slicks for more grip and faster lap times.

Even with slicks (which I do like), 50% less downforce will mean much slower laptimes.

50% less downforce means 50% less grip.
slicks dont provide that much grip compared to groove tyres do they?

Weren't the regulation changes this year also supposed to limit downforce? Interesting, seeing as most teams are running FASTER than last year.

Just goes to show you, the more Bernie and Max try to take away, the more the teams will get from the cars.

CFD and modern day technologies quickly replace any benefit lost as surface area goes down.

The F1 sporting model is about to follow the lead of the on track action...

It will do anything to block the IRL/CCWS merger from passing it in the media as the top echelon of motorsport. Tony George will dictate what F1 does if he has the brains to open up the rules and get the major manufacturers and world market sponsors that are necessary.

Team ebay, Google, Microsoft, Starbucks, HP, Intel, AMD..........

It could be huge!

No tire warmers is going to be really interesting.

It looks like they will be testing the slicks in April and July.

Will Bridgestone still be the main supplier for the slicks or will they eventually go back to Goodyear. Goodyear has the best slicks when it comes to grip and they dominated Formula 1 in the past. It should be very interesting to see.

bridgestone is the official supplier till the end of 2010.

As I've said before, I would love to see Goodyear back in F1 (for a variety of reasons..)

However, I can't see it happening any time in the near future. Outrageously expensive to maintain a tire war, which is why Michelin pulled out. Beyond that, Goodyear's been out of F1 for 10 years. Lot of ground to catch up.

And while i'm a aerodynamics freak, i concede the problems are there, all i hope is that aero won't be restricted, but it seems not..we'll see.

Wouldn't slowing the cars down by 5 seconds/lap, as speculated, run F1 cars dangerously close to being overtaken by lesser formulae, GP2, etc? Please say it wouldn't be so.

IIRC, I read in a previous thread with a similar topic that F1 would only be about 2(+) seconds faster than GP2. I believe it was concerning the regulation overhaul for 2009, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

Was it you Ogami who posted something along those lines?

i dont get it why FIA is trying to make Formula One SLOWER but not faster?
