I was more directing towards the fact that the undercut sidepods will be out next year, which means that we are probably going to have tall but thin sidepod openings that are similar to the F92. With the banned winglets, and improved cooling technology, I see the inlets going from horizontal (McLaren) to vertical, and possibly very close to the driver.

There are some mock up images on here, and there has been MUCH discussion as to what the cars will look like next year.

I simply cannot wait, expecially since Honda has already stated that the new regs actually reduce DF levels by 25% instead of the intended 50%. Add slicks to that equasion, and a "boost" button for the KERS, and we may be back into 1000bhp cars with a LOT of downforce.

F1 could actually BE F1 again!

A very interesting page on this car is in 2007 USA Friday Red Bulletin. There are regular technical articles by G.Piola in the RBulletins since 2006, on "classic" F1 cars, with the Piola's drawings we all (love) know and also comments by the designers/drivers, a must have !

brings up the issue of flow throu of the carbody as the main area to work on.As the technology is already present as always rules only redirect the workforce to different, possibly smaller areas wich are then looked at in greater detail ,pulling up costs accordingly.Additionally this creates an envirionment where you might put in a big effort into details bút not improving your competitiveness ,because all those specialists do not have a clue what is really missing in your equation.
CFD is a strong tool ,but make one wrong assumption in an area that is of importance and the whole thing is rendered useless or contraproductive ...

The f92 was modified halfway through the season so that the sidepod undercut finished halfway along the sidepod. This looked much like the 1996 Ferrari. I've got some cool technical pics of the F92, drawn by Giorgio Piola, from the launch of the 96 Ferrari where it is compared to the f92. I can't upload them but I can send them as attachments if anyones interested...

Thanks scarbs!

Incidentally, just above my desk I have a huge poster of Alesi testing this car around Fiorano. Maybe not a fast car, but absolutely gorgeous :)

Have someone these two photos or similar ones ?

And do you think a modern F1 car with this kind of sidepods is feasible nowadays ?
I think yes. The Kers would be harder to package though...

I think they would not be realistic with min radius rule.
OTOH massively undercut sidepods (like on F10) are working along the same lines.
