The best F1 Sim

I've got some cash to either:
Get an Xbox360
or a PS3
Or a high-end video card.
The deciding factor will be which one has the best F1 sim.
I'm still playing EA F12002 so what is generally regarded as the best sim?

There aint any new f1 games for the pc or xbox, so if you want the newest you should buy a ps3. Although the newest f1 simulater is F1 Challenge 99-02 wich allows you to play from 1999-2002, the game is easy to mod and there are dozens of mods available, so you can play allmost every possible season.

That's a good question.
You have to look at it several ways:
F1 Challenge '99-'02
-Full F1 sim
-Uses ISI engine (an older version of rFactor's engine)
-Has loads of mods (pretty much every year is catered for)
-Crap graphics
Grand Prix 4
-Full F1 sim
-Uses bespoke engine
-Lots of mods but not as many as F1 Challenge
-Looks better than F1 Challenge
rFactor
-My personal favourite sim
-Has official BMW Sauber F1.08 (with data from the company)
-Loads of F1 mods from 1979, 1985, 1988, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 with sevaral old ones on the way
-Looks the best out of all of them
-Has absolutely countless amounts of content:

yep, rFactor has high quality F1 mods made by dedicated individuals. that would be the best F1 sim currently.
F1 2007 MMG 1.00
FSONE 2007 1.10

Thanks for comments,
I'll d/l the demo of rFactor and have a look. I've been looking at you tube videos.
It's either Rfactor or Sony F1Championship on ps3. I have to say though that the ps3 version is graphically 'stiffening' =D> . But then I'd have to pay £340.
With rFactor I could just get a new video card and the game. And it's probably more 'sim' in terms of handling. On the videos I didn't notice much in the way of opposite lock. Which is my favourite thing. I don't want it to be too planted, cos I like the back-end to dance a little. So i just hope they were all using full TC.
I read somewhere that it's not a simple dvd install, but that you have only limited installs, I really don't like that kind of thing, I think they said there was a way round it. Do you know?

Actually, one of the things I would most like would be to have full 180-degree steering lock(allthough you would only ever need it at Monaco'). I think that it would 'feel' more realstic. Because as it stands, in a game you're turning at twice the rate of a real driver.
Would this be possible to mod in rFactor? Cos I guess you'd have to re-do the driver arm animations?

F1 Championship on PS3 isn't a sim by any means. I own it and it's rather disappointing

I'd suggest rFactor too - first there are already some great mods out there for current F1.
Also, the historic series.
Don't forget you can then access staggering amounts of tracks and other cars should your fancy wander from F1.

With the steering lock question (I think this is right?)
Most mods will let you adjust the degrees of lock in the setup menu (this isn't where you access your 180deg from BTW

). You should be able to setup your wheel to get the lock you need. Somewhere between the game settings and wheel settings I would be amazed if you couldn't find what you wanted.
Enjoy............

stearing lock depends on the wheel u have. they are all at least 180 deg (
G25 has 900deg) and u can change the ratio so that u can tune the wheel stearing to your liking.
seriously rFactor is what you want, and there will be oposite lock moments if u turn off TC and boot it.

Has anybody here ever tried Live for Speed? Yes, LFS, not NFS. I've heard it's pretty good too, but I don't have much info.

There is no driver arms animation in rFactor unfortunately. But you can change the rotational angle of the visual steering wheel to match the movement of your real wheel.

yer LFS has one of the best physics in any game created!!!!, but there are no mods, the cars are made up except for the Formula BMW and BMW Sauber F106, also the tracks are mad up as well. You can't mod it, you just have to wait for the developers to release new items for the game

In my opinion kensaundm31, the closest experience you can currently get to the real thing (at a consumer level) would be the
2007 BMW Sauber F1 addon from ISI/CTDP. In terms of physics, I'm yet to find an rFactor mod that surpasses this one, and that includes the latest mods. Here's the link:
http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cf ... 20BMW%20F1
It's important to note that this is a single car addon, however the modding group tha created it, CTDP, are in the process of completing a mod of the 2006 season, which appears set to raise the bar substantially:
http://www.ctdpworld.org/f1-2006.html - features of the 2006 mod.
http://devblog.ctdp.net/ - this is CTDP's development blog.
My advice; buy rFactor, buy a G25 wheel, download and practice with the 2007 BMW Sauber mod while you await the 2006 mod release. Once you're at this stage ask about "RealFeel", "Leo'sFFB", and several other changes/additions your should make to rFactor so you get the best possible racing experiecne. I would head to an rFactor specific forum as you'll recieve more direct help, here's a good place to start:
