Hello to everyone: Does anyone have an even rough estimation of the current power output of 2008 F1 engines?

RVX-08 Technical Specifications
Cylinders: 8
Capacity: 2,398cc
Horsepower: Approximately 740bhp
Revolutions: Maximum 19,000rpm (as required by FIA rules)

Suppose it's maybe 20 or 30hp more by now, but that's an approximation of course.

And it doesn't help that despite the freeze, sites like Honda's homepage state "700+"

I believe the Ferrari and Mclaren engines are around the 770BHP mark. Just rumours from sources that I have. Although, Honda and Renault are claiming they are 40-50BHP off the top 2 so Mclaren and Ferrari may be pushing 780BHP - the values the teams had at the end of 2006.

I dunno, the 770hp figure is what I've heard about them at the start of the freeze, with 750hp from the others (and indeed, Toyota at 740hp). I've read these ages ago, so I can't find the source again, but I'd guess the Ferraris and McLarens would indeed be past 780hp, perhaps even closing on 790hp?

Well if you use the only semi-official data I have for 2006:

Ferrari Tipo Type 056: 785BHP @ 20,000rpm

This gives torque of 206ft.lb @ 20,000rpm.

If I use that torque as the value it has at 19,000rpm, this gives you 745BHP. Sure, you'd have a increase in torque at 19,000rpm compared to 20,000rpm but to get the same power at 19,000rpm it would need to produce 217ft.lbs of torque. This is 5% more torque than what they had at the end of 2006. It might but I'd be conservative and say 770BHP.

Can somebody actually hear hp?... the V-8 rev higher than the V-10s, and now that TC is gone I think the v-8's are sounding much better than they ever have. The V-10's were quiter and an much lower tone than the current v-8's... and what about twhen the V-8 were pushing 21K rpm?

Sorry but I completely disagree. Have you ever attended F1 races from both eras (late V10 era) to compare?

The V10s were louder, higher pitched and much, much more harmonious.

V10 = HEAVEN

Also, the V10s revved higher than the V8s do today; in 2003 they were peaking at around 19,500rpm (BMW and Ferrari).

even in your own video comparison the V-8's have a higher frequency sound than the V-10. Cant compare the volume because they werent recorded side by side. I like the sound of both but I cant say that the V-10 was higher pitch.

I dont remember any V-10's approaching 19.5K, but maybe they did.

My rotary is probably louder than all of them but it definatly doesnt have the same hp... my main point is that you cant actually hear HP, even on naturally aspirated engines.

Hmm, I'm not too sure your rotary would be as loud. The V10 F1 cars is the loudest thing I've ever heard apart from a Top Fuel dragster. The V8s aren't much quieter but it is noticeable at the track -- especially the Toyota engine, it's actually quite quiet.

Both sound fantastic in completely different ways, in my opinion. The V10s have a lower, slightly rougher "growl", while the V8s have a high-pitched angry scream - one which was better in the '06 unrestricted V8s, though, in my opinion.

OK my RX-7 isnt 140db+, but it is way effin loud for sure, especially with the silencers off. Top fuel and pretty much any type of high power dragsters are louder than F1. But I'm pretty sure the v-8 is a higher frequency then the V-10. But when you think about it, noise is wasted energy that isnt being put down to the wheels.
