I have the distorted word box bot filter on my forum. But, IPB sent me this message

"It has come to our attention that a new wave of SPAM is originating via the Personal Messenger within IP.Board. It is believed that humans are registering to satisfy the reCAPTCHA requirements and then activating a "bot" to send hundreds of SPAM messages via the PM system."

The bots need a human to open the door for them, but these people are barely human. We have managed to keep them all out

SPAM e-mails from member here...

Post

Received an e-mail from a n00b member here to my F1Tech mailbox.
Deceptive subject line "Forum Administration" with a link to site in Russia labeled "Important to read!"

Not going to call him out unless other people received same or similar e-mail.
As there is no "Report SPAM" button in e-mail, I forwarded to the site admins...

I don't know what everyone's on about...me personally, I've got $500, all my life savings, of viagra coming to me early next week. Profilicus is a scolar a gentleman for bringing this to our attention. And I don't even know him, he just sent me this out of the blue on the internet service!

So I say enough with this talk of banning him and let's make him in charge of this! We'll all have perma-boners!

All,

many of you have received a pm from profilicus, obviously a spam account that has been used to send several thousands of PM's, totalling approximately half our user base. Strangely, I nor Principessa have received this.

As quickly as the problem was reported 2 days ago, Ciro Pabón blocked the user so that any more generation of spam PM's was impossible there. By now, the user is also blocked, the IP originating from Guatemala also blocked. I also just deleted everything of this user, including UNREAD PM's.

Note that we will be looking for a preventive solution to try and make sure this doesn't happen again, but in any case, if you get a suspicious PM, please forward it to the group "Moderators".

Thank you for your understanding,
Steven

*sigh*
There was once again a user at work sending PM spam, something titles "Protect against Spam". I removed the user and the PM's, so I'm sorry if you have received a "new pm" mail without actually getting the PM.

I'm thinking to disallow sending PM's for users with less than 2 posts (the spam PM so far has all been from newly registered users without any posts).

Make it 10, Tomba. If there are users setting up these accounts, they'll type their two posts in 20 seconds and start spamming again.
With 10 posts, we can at least buy into their intentions around the site.

Yes indeed... three pm spammers yesterday.
I'll see to work out a solution in the course of this week, asap

In the meantime, keep reporting them so that we can kick the spammers out of here ;)

Why do i have the felling it is the same person all the time? I mean, a few months ago there was no spam on the forums here, but after one guy sended spam via pm the pm gets spaamed multiple times a day.

Now we got this idiot selling phones on the forum.

I don't understand, why do people insist on being annoying and bust or chops like this? If I want a phone I go buy one. But part of why the world is messed up these days.
